I was worried the 9" size would be tough to work with, but they are fine. I have a pair of 12" Addi Turbos that I found once years ago at a LYS - you never see any that size in the stores and before then it never occurred to me that you could actually find wee circular sock needles. I wanted a second pair because I like working two socks at once and DPNs can be a pain when you knit on the go, which I tend to do for small projects like socks. Plus sometimes those turbos feel a little too pointy and stabby on my fingers. It's been awhile since I knitted and the sensation of those sharp turbos were annoying to my fingertips.

Plus, these were half the price. It does take some getting used to the short length of the actual needle. I am including a photo to show the difference between the Addi Turbi and the Clover needle. It's kind of comical how short the "loading" area is on the Clover needle, and I would definitely recommend casting on to a DPN and then transferring the stitches to the circular to ensure even tension.

I thought I would really miss the longer cord on the Turbos, but after knitting one sock on the Clover and starting on a second on the Turbo, I noticed how often the stitches on the Turbo had to be nudged along. That doesn't happen with the shorter needle. And while I wouldn't say that the 12" needle stretches the socks out of shape, they are definitely stretching a bit. You can see in my other photo how the ribbing on the second sock is stretched out. I just noticed that Addi makes an 8" size 3 and now I am curious about that one. The 9" size on the Clover feels about right once you are used to it. I wish they had made a 10" and made the bamboo part a little longer, but regardless, these still beat DPNs in terms of speed and ease of knitting.

I don't know what that other reviewer was expecting. If Clover made these needle tips 4" long like their regular circs, the connecting cable could only be 1" long, which would make it impossible to flex enough to go in a circle. For a smaller circular needle, the tips need to be shortened.

That said, these needles are great for the occasional pair of gloves or socks. I have read that the bamboo tips break, but so far I have done four gloves on mine and have not had any breakage, nor have the tips gotten blunt like bamboo needles sometimes do. Highly recommended.

They were a bit fiddly at first, but by the time I'd gotten to the end of the first glove's cuff, I had worked out a way to hold them so that my knitting was just about as fast as when using longer circs.

I really love these 9-inch circular needles! They are the perfect length for knitting adult socks. The bamboo needle tips provide just enough drag to keep the stitches from accidentally dropping off - a chronic problem I have with metal double-point needles (DPNs).

It is true that for the first couple of rounds you may feel as if you are knitting with matchsticks, but as the knitting grows it becomes easy to maintain a relaxed grip.

I just finished my first pair of socks with these and was astonished at how fast I can complete a project without the constant needle adjustments that are required of both magic-loop knitting and traditional DPNs.

The results are beautiful - absolutely smooth stockinette stitch without any trace of the laddering that can occur when knitting with DPNs.

These needles have forever changed how I knit socks. Really, you should give these a try. I predict you will love them too!

If double point needles aren't your thing, these circulars are perfect for smaller jobs. I was knitting a cabled scarf in the round and really wanted to use circulars. (Splitting a cable pattern across dpns just felt too messy.) These did the trick. The angled tips make it easy to work in a tight circle.

As a warning, you may want to have point protectors to cap the ends of the needles when you set your work down. Such a tight space means that its easier for the knitting to slip off.

I love using these 9 inch circulars for socks! They make it really easy to knit socks in the round as you don't have to keep sliding the yarn around to prepare a new needle as you would with dpn's or two circulars. It makes my socks go just a bit faster.

The only downside to using these for socks is that you do have to use something else to help with the heel flap and decreasing on the toes if you're doing top-down socks and you have to use dpn's or circs to start the toe if doing toe-up.

I have been using these needles for knitting socks. They make it easy to knit in the round without having all the double pointed needles. This makes my knitting more portable because you don't have to worry about losing one of your needles and it also makes it easy to just put your knitting in your bag. They are a little like knitting with match sticks, but this is necessary since the needles have to be short in order to knit small things in the round. The cord is smooth and stitches easily slide over them. I am definitely going to buy more of these in the other sizes I need!

At first the small "needles" (nubs really) took some getting used to, but now I really like them. Beats using double pointed needles or magic circle when making mittens IMHO, which is what I bought them for. Probably would work great on socks too, just haven't tried that yet. Also just right for making iPhone cozies or holder for glasses. My only complaint is the join between the bamboo and metal is not quite as snug as I would like. Sometimes stitches on the right needle catch as you're moving them clockwise. But only sometimes. Still my preferred needles when knitting something small and tubular.
