As you read this review, consider that these doorstops evoked a sufficient emotional response that I felt the need to sit down and express my thoughts to the world. Let that sink in a moment. Something about these irrelevant, disposable and fundamentally unimportant doorstops was so potent that I took time away from my wife and small children, set aside my demanding white collar job, and decided to write about doorstops. Have you ever considered something so on the face of it absurd? You have no reason to believe me, but I'm a fairly sane and easy going person not generally inclined to be morose about doorstops. These though - these doorstops require a world of banality and cruel stupidity to allow their existence.

National Hardware presumably decided to sell doorstops, hired some other company to produce them, and then went to the bother of packaging them. Someone has a job where they are paid money to make decision about the color of doorstops. Another person must think about how to market them in an appealing way. Think about that. Massive ships and complex logistics systems were invoked to transport, around the entire planet, doorstops. As if that wasn't enough, Amazon then provided one of the most complex technology and warehousing systems on the planet to inventory, manage and sell these doorstops. Within 48 hours of me being irritated my office door wouldn't stay open, Amazon had deployed a courier service to bring them from who knows where to my home. These doorstops have touched literally hundreds of people, families, and careers and employed some of the most complicated marvels of our age. What drives me to write this review, is that for all that effort the stupid things don't work.

We bought these for the front door to our building. A standard doorstop was too small to stop the door. These work perfectly. They're made of a soft grippy rubber so they don't slide around.

Update: After five years, the door stops have become harder and less grippy, and now they don't hold the (heavy, glass) front door to our building open - they slide along the floor. We swapped them for use on an inside (wooden) door, where they are fine.

i hate having to open n close doors to go from room to room in my own house when i am the only one at home so i thought these might be able to help...seems i was wrong!!no matter how far i push 'em under the doors they just skate right across the floor with the least amount of breeze...two different rooms...two different tiles (non-skid-might i add)...
maybe it has to do with the smooth finish in the bottom...
either way...i wont recommend these for wooden or tiled floors...

I bought these to help keep a door closed, and they didn't work. Perhaps it was because it was on carpet? I'm not sure, but they had no traction and the door would slide right open. At least they were cheap....

This door stop is "old school" and strangely difficult to find in our local big box stores. So, I defaulted to Amazon and ordered it. I was expecting one and thought it was very pricey, but two showed up in the package, so it ended up being half as pricey as I thought it was... Obviously the clearance on your door is going to make a difference. If you have more than a 1 inch clearance at the bottom of your door, it's probably not going to work. Others have commented it "slips" and that probably happens on very slick floors. We use ours on carpet and it holds fine. There is a bit of "tack" to the bottom which should hold on relatively smooth floors. If it's freshly waxed, it might not hold as well.

...I think they must smell like dog treats, because my puppy won't leave them alone. I'm on my 4th replacement now; #3 lasted long enough for me to prop the door open and change out the laundry! Good, chunky size and soft enough to really wedge in and also grip the floor.

I bought several of these to hold doors open while moving from one apartment to another. They are realy light, too light to hold a heavy door. They are also prone to breaking or bending rather than holding doors in place if you do manage to get them to stay put. I ended up needing to wedge several of these together under an exterior door to keep it open.
