My daughter has a genetic condition called Prader-Willi Syndrome.. One of the symptoms of this complex condition is the compulsion to pick the skin, causing open sores, scarring and infection..There was a study published in the American Journal of Medical genetics reporting great success in reducing or even stopping this disturbing behavior using N-AcetylCysteine (specifically the PharmaNac brand- because of the way it is produced and packaged, it retains potency and is much better absorbed than typical drug store brand) Here is a link to the Pub Med abstract of that study- [...] I am please to report my daughter has been on PharmaNac for less than a month, and has seen complete resolution of her skin picking behavior! I LOVE this stuff. Totally got rid of aggression in my 7 year old autistic boy. It is kind of spendy is a down side, if you're dosing in amounts they need to get positive results. Mine only needs 2 per day. Thank goodness we never had to go to 3. I actually stopped giving it to him, and my husband, who thinks I'm crazy with all this, said to me one night, "Whatever you had him on, please give it to him again." Don't forget to supplement it with your B vitamins (B-12 is the most important, I think.). The guys who did the Stanford University study own shares of this company and this is what they used in their research.

My doctor had been prescribing N-acetylcysteine ("NAC") for use in the nebulizer for a lung problem, and insurance paid for it since it was by prescription. That's no longer being manufactured, so I tried this--I especially trust it because it's made in Germany. Don't like the wild berry taste but it is just as effective as the prescription medication. Wonderful to find it on Amazon, my favorite shopping site.

This type of NAC doesn't oxidize because each effervescent tablet is individually wrapped. After putting my 9 year old Autistic son on this, his teacher at school tells me that he sits more quietly and much less fidgety than before. Also, I've noticed less angry outbursts from him and less problems with constipation. NAC increases the bodies ability to make Glutathione, thereby increasing the body's ability to eliminate toxins. Something many kids with autism have problems with. I recommend this to everyone I know.

This keeps me going!!! I have a chronic lung infection that is resistant to antibiotics....yet, I have to take 3 horrible antibiotics in combination twice a day! Most people can not tolerate this treatment...yet I have been able to for 1.5 years so far.....In my early treatment I researched looking for help. Someone recommended NAC on a support forum, how they use it in the ER to treat tylenol overdose. I knew I felt toxic so this made sense to try. Best thing I ever did!!! If I miss taking this a day or two..I can feel it. This also helps with keeping my lungs as clear as possible.
I also gave this to one of my adult children who had a hangover...they actually felt better within 1 hour. I timed it to see if it would make a difference. I think this is good for more than they know at this point. Research it for yourself. I need to put this on auto-ship....I won't be without it. Also, Amazon is where I buy it..I always get it within a day or two of ordering.

The manufacturer of PharmaNAC was recently changed from Germany to somewhere in India.

They changed the flavors and added sucralose to the formulation.

Sucralose has recently been linked to cancer in mice. ( http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/244603.php )

Furthermore, the new product tastes very bad, and does not seem as effective as the old product (e.g. the wildberry flavored version).

The company must have been trying to cut corners with the new manufacturer in India, and it shows in the quality of the product and its taste and ingredients.

I will find my NAC elsewhere.

This has done amazing things for my asthma, allergies and overall energy levels. I also highly recommend it before drinking any alcohol (but not after), especially if you're a lightweight or prone to hangovers. It will make you smell kinda like sulphur immediately after drinking it, in a weirdly cathartic way. This is what they give to people with Acetaminophen/Paracetamol poisoning in the Emergency Room to protect their livers, and it works incredibly well for that. I did a lot of research before trying this one out (as I do for all vitamins/supplements), but I was pleasantly surprised by the immediate and obvious effects of this one. It really tastes and smells like crap but it's worth it!
