This is a top notch torque wrench without a ridiculous price. Furthermore, Snap-on/CDI is excellent to deal with. I had some questions regarding this torque wrench, so I called their office and was transferred to someone in their technical team. He was not at his desk, so I left a voice mail expecting to never hear from him, but he called me back within 10 minutes. We spoke for about 15 minutes and he explained everything you could ever want to know about this torque wrench and torque wrenches in general.

You want to pick a torque wrench that will be primarily used in the "middle" range of adjustment. For example, this torque wrench is most accurate between 70-90 ft-lbs. On the calibration sheet that was shipped with the wrench, it was only off by 0.7%.

Also, this is a dual-scale torque wrench. It is hard to tell from the photos, but it is in 10 ft-lb increments on the shaft with 1 ft-lb increments on the handle. On the reverse side it has Nm, but it is not even. If you want Nm to be the primary scale, then you will need product 2003NMRMH.

The only difference between this and the Snap-on version is that the ratchet head on this CDI wrench is made in Taiwan, whereas the Snap-On one is made in USA. Both wrenches are assembled by CDI in California, but the CDI one does not have 100% american made components (everything else is aside from the head). For half the cost, I'll take one with an asian sourced head since I'm not using it professionally.

I own several CDI torque wrenches, this is why:

First, they look good -- chrome plating with laser etched markings makes a tool that looks great and will be easy to clean. I know its just a tool, but having a tool that looks good in your hand is more fun to use.

On this particular model, the main graduations are in 5 lb. increments with .5 graduations around the dial. So each full turn of the handle is a 5 lb increase/decrease. Simply pull back on the spring loaded sleeve and rotate the handle to make adjustments. Let go and it locks right in. Others I have used have a locking dial on the handle end which can become loose and you lose your setting. The ratcheting head on this particular model does not have a locking ball to hold the socket like the other CDI torque wrenches I own. It still has a spring loaded ball catch however it just doesn't have the locking button on top of the head. I haven't found this to be a nuisance; the socket stays on anyway. The ratcheting head has three positions forward, reverse, and locked in (or not ratcheting) with the middle setting.

CDI has excellent customer support. I contacted them prior to ordering and a tech was easy to contact spent plenty of time explaining the specifics of their wrenches. I called the tech for an explanation on accuracy ratings. To summarize, this wrench is accurate within +/- 4% indicated reading from 20% to 100% of full scale -- my certificate of calibration states values much lower than this (from .5 - 2.5%). Accuracy from 20% to 100% is industry standard though some torque wrench's will be accurate to +/- 3%. In this case 20% of 75 ft/lb is 15 ft/lb. So this tool will be increasingly less accurate the farther below 15 ft/lb you go. This is due to lack of compression on the spring in the lowest 20%.

This is one item in life you can purchase without any doubt that it will meet and exceed your expectations.

This CDI torque wrench is made in the USA. Adjustment is beyond precise, as smooth as adjusting high quality binoculars. Click sound is easily herd and the torque reached feel is precise. Full revolution adjustments increment by 10 lbs making it easy to find your torque setting. Markings are etched with a distinctive color making them easy to read. It even includes a quick release making socket swapping a snap.

Calibration results are included in the blow molded case. My torque wrench was well within +/- 1% within the top 80% range. I confirmed its calibration using an AllTrade Digital Torque Adapter in my vice, which I confirmed the accuracy of the AllTrade using two different beam torque wrenches.

I was going to get the GearWrench 3/8 drive 85052 to match my GearWrench 1/2 drive 85054, but for about $20 more I'm glad I spent the extra coin on this model.

Okay so like most people I would assume that the picture used to sell the item is the item. Well when I received this I was a little shocked to see that it is way smaller than the picture would have you believe. The torque wrench is only 9 1/2 inches long. It does appear to be of excellent quality and is calibrated. So I guess there is no foul here, but just wanted to let everyone know the picture is not to scale.

This torque wrench is everything they said it would be. Outstanding quality and precision in everyway. My 3/8 Snap-On torque wrench is in inch-pounds for aviation work and I wanted a quality foot-pound torque wrench.

After studying everything out there I selected the CDI and I was not disappointed. Great quality at a very fair price and nicer than my older 3/8 and 1/2 Snap-Ons.

It is the first torque wrench I have ever purchased that has come with its calibration results.

It says on the box "A Snap-On Company," I think I got Snap-On quality without the Snap-On Price.
