I bought this at a local store for my recently acquired cat. I removed the bell as that was just too much to expect the cat to get used to, but so far she is doing well.

She spent one day trying to get it off and only succeeded once...the breakaway clasp feels very flimsy and is very easy for 'the humans' to open, but apparently not so much for the cat. I appreciate the fact it's made of recycled bottles (and the packaging on recycled paper), however this is a little bit stiff and the sizing adjustment is a little tough to accomplish, though this may improve over time.

Anyway, after one day she totally ignored the collar so it must not be uncomfortable--I just can't help in using my human comfort standards in thinking it should be softer and more pliant.

I take off one star just because the construction (stitching and hardware) really do feel flimsy and I'm not convinced at how long the collar will hold up.

Recommended (we got the green one with swirls).

(for context--the cat was born around July 2012 and grew up with her littermates/feral mom across the street and around our yard...she was the runt of three kittens. Fortunately the whole family was trapped/neutered/released. The larger two kittens eventually died --one obviously hit by a car and the other one, not so sure why. They'd been sleeping in a kitty pile on our front porch regularly at that point and it was obvious she was getting lonely. One day she walked into the house and refused to leave--learned the litter pan immediately, the scratching post shortly thereafter and even is good with the dog. The collar was the last big "I'm a pet" item--she truly has learned the 'thou shalt not type on the laptop without kitty interference' trick!).

I liked the color choices and the breakaway feature for this collar. I took the bell off because he would scratch and it drove me nuts! He has not had the collar come off with the breakaway feature yet but I have pulled it apart myself and it works great. I liked the idea that if he does get caught, he can get away and not choke.

Nice looking collar, but the breakaway latch disconnects too easy. It came off several times within the first two days. After several successful collar hunts, the last time it came off it was gone for good (along with our pretty custom made Etsy tag!).

It's not like our cat was clawing to get out of the collar, it just came off during normal cat activity. I recommend against this collar.

Short Version:
If your cat is fussy about collars or has sensitive skin, you may want to look elsewhere. If your cat couldn't care less, these collars are decent.

Long Version:
I have 2 cats, so I ordered 2 of these collars, 1 green and 1 purple. They arrived looking exactly as pictured, which made me happy because I really liked the colors/patterns. I also liked the design of the breakaway clasps on these. My cats destroyed their previous collars by getting them off while we were asleep and then chewing on the prongs of the clasps so they eventually wouldn't stay closed anymore. The clasps on these have no prongs, and are instead 2 solid pieces--one is a flattened sphere that slides snugly into the other, which is shaped like a slightly-open clam shell.

Unfortunately, these collars didn't end up working out for us. When they first arrived, I noticed that the material was a bit stiffer and scratchier on the edges than ideal, but decided to try them out anyway. One of our cats was completely fine with hers, but our other cat must have a more sensitive neck, because he did NOT like his. He's never really 'loved' collars, but usually if we distract him for the first couple hours with toys and food, he'll get over it and tolerate wearing a collar. With this collar, a few hours later, he started freaking out--running around the house as fast as he could, only pausing briefly to scratch at his neck, then crazy running again--so we admitted defeat and took it off. Now we know that we need to physically go to a pet store and feel the collars before we buy them! (Both cats were completely settled into new, softer collars 2 days later.)

While it isn't stretchy, it does immediately release when the cat catches the collar on anything. I'm always afraid of a cat choking so usually avoid collars. When our cat got outside and killed a bird, I decided to purchase a collar with a bell. A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of the breakaway collars. It's inexpensive enough that I wouldn't care if the cat were to lose it. I'd rather have it lost than to have my cat hung or its prey lose its life. So far it's stayed on and no dead animals have been brought to me - thank goodness.

Liked the purple color. However my cat hated the bell and ran around like something possessed to try to get away from the jingling bell !!! It was quite funny to watch but the poor cat was traumatized! I took the bell off and now it is liked my me and my cat!

Nice sturdy collar but the metal clasp that the bell attaches on is not a solid piece of metal - it's open in the back. You can't actually attach pet ID tags to this at all.
