I really like the idea of cherry lime syrup, but this did not taste good in the slightest. It combines the sulfurous aftertaste of unfortunate maraschino cherries with the bitter aftertaste of too much lime peel. I left it in the kitchen for the vultures at work, and it kept re-appearing as one person after another realized how bad it was. This terrible syrup is not typical of my experience with Torani, which has otherwise been good.

I always found it difficult to make cherry lime rickeys. Lime syrup seemed unavailable, and even if it was, its sugar content would've oversweetened the mixture -- unless I was also using cherry syrup, also hard to find. (This in pre-Amazon.com days.) True, you could pour lime soda into cherry soda, but it was hard to put enough lime in to taste it without destroying the cherry character. I'd say this Torani cherry lime syrup is as good as any similar product that will ever appear. You taste the lime in a sea of cherry. It's a uniquely attractive flavor, as it is sweet and a bit sour at the same time. I well remember an "upscale" luncheonette in the borderland of Brighton and Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn in the early 1950s, that would have on display open to the sidewalk tall glasses with ice cubes (?) and wedges of lime on top, ready to be made into cherry lime rickeys. This was far beyond my means at probably 15 cents, at a time when a fountain small coke was 5 cents. For the record, these prices in 2014 dollars would be about $1.35 and 45 cents respectively. I mix my lime rickeys with Blue Sky True seltzer, 24 cans delivered to my door for $16.61 via amazon. I fooled with making seltzer at home many years ago, and I'm not impressed by the trendy seltzer makers...not interested in what you have to buy and go through. Especially so when I have the right sized can to pop open for well under $1.00, and the ice cold seltzer is always just right.

Oh the joy of sitting back on a hot day with a tall glass with a tall straw, lots of crushed ice, lots of sparkling water and a very small amount of Torani cherry lime syrup! Now just add some lime slices and maraschino cherries and you have one of those yummy drive in restaurant sodas!
Wonder if it's too sweet to use as a water ice with a cup of shaved ice? I'll get back to you on this!
