Style Name: Carving Knife Set Verified Purchase
Carving set is of acceptable quality, but not the same as a high quality German made set (as far as feel, balance, finish, and knife edge out of the box). Def a couple of grades up from most lower end Chineses made knives though. Knife feels hollow, which does not give it great balance. This set is more than acceptable for occasional use, but if your carving all the time I would recommend buying a better quality German made set......But these sets usually cost at least 3 times the price !!!. I seriously dought Jamie Oliver uses these knifes in real life, only for show on TV, there def not professional knifes. I would also buy a sharperner from Amazon at the same time (great prices), so you can get and keep your knife sharp.

I would have given the product 3 stars, but with Amazon's (current) fantastic pricing at just under $28 I give this product 4 stars. I would recommend purchase for someone wanting a carving set for occasional use like Thanksgiving, the odd dinner party every once and a while etc :-). Looks stylish.

Pro's: low cost through Amazon, stylish, has the "look" of a high end knife, def does the job for occasional use, reasonably good stainless steel used, packaged quite well and could make a very presentable gift.

Con's: Handle and bolster of knive not a great weight leading to average balance and handling, handle feels "cold" , Knife blade is wielded together to the handle next to bolster, (unlike higer end knives that are one piece forged steel which equals better strengh and durability), not for high use or commercial uses.

I had previously purchased a very well known brand of knives from a major department store via the internet. Upon inspection, it was apparent that the knives were of inferior quality and were promptly returned.

To determine what to look for in a quality knife, I went to a store that carried knives and studied what an expensive set (which I could not afford) offered. The better knives had a "chunky bolster" which protected the hand and gave it more weight. There were also other considerations such as "full tang." I had also seen sets that had knives that I would never use and were missing a bread knife that I always use.

The Jamie Oliver Knife Block Set (purchase the sharpening steel also) has the knives that you will constantly utilize. They have wonderful balance and are quite "weighty" which results in less pressure needed for chopping or cutting. They cut easily and the handles are extremely comfortable. The set is aesthetically beautiful.

I am amazed that this set can be offered at such a wonderful price point.

I was worried about purchasing a knife set on Amazon, but assumed that anything Jamie Oliver backs is going to be a quality product. I'm glad I went with this purchase.

This knife set has everything you need EXCEPT a spot for your scissors. Literally the only down side.

The bread knife could do with a good sharpening right out of the box from an experienced sharpener.

Straight out of the box, the boning, utility, chefs and paring knife are razor sharp. I was impressed. No burrs, crisp cuts and the block doesn't take up much space.

Don't waste your money on those massive knife sets. You need the basics, which this set has.

Your chef knife for just about everything, boning knife for the obvious use, paring for your specific and delicate cuts, utility knife for anything that doesn't call for a chef's knife or a paring knife and lastly, your bread knife. Great for the bakers.

My first knife set purchase and I'm glad it was the Jamie Oliver set. We'll see how it fares up over the next few months and how often I need to take it in for a real sharpening.

As always, get a good quality honer and hone your knifes after every use you can stand to do so. Every single use is preferred, but just do it as often as you can. It will keep your knives sharp and your fingers safe.

Lastly, this knife set is forged and well balanced. A full tang through the handle and a fantastic bolster.

As Advertised-I purchased Calphalon's rolled steel knife set years ago and the one item it did not come with was a carving fork. I took a chance on this Jaime Oliver carving fork fitting the slot on my knife block and to my pleasant surprise- it fit perfectly! The forks points are extremely sharp and long and will hold any roast in place as you carve. The fork quality is high enough that I would not place it in the dishwasher-nor do I place any of my knives in the dishwasher.

The set seems to be well made, good quality, and the knife is razor sharp as we had hoped it would be. For home use, can not really see why anyone would spend more money on a carving set unles they just want a particulr knife. They should last for many years. Glad we bought them.

Good sharp knives. Hold their edge very well if cared for. Order the matching honing steel (or any honing steel) and learn how to use it to extend the lifespan of your edges without the need for a full sharpening. Good quality, great weight and balance, attractive storage block, and no unnecessary steak knives. The "Jamie Oliver" logos are tastefully subtle and not obnoxious. Highly recommended. Only complaint is that the storage block does not have space for the honing steel. Great price/value for what you get.

UPDATE: I've been using these for a little over two years now and continue to have zero complaints. Occasional honing and standard blade care has kept these knives in great shape.
