super reciever, November 22, 2009
this is a great reciever. you can custumize everything. change volume on every speaker. skip the inputs you dont use. as for the customer who cant stop it from switching to tv the he should plug his cable into the tv slot and change the name from tv to whatever he wants. Though i feel it could use 1 more set of component inputs. this is a top notch reciever. be careful when you buy it from a third party. they only give you 1 years warrenty compared to its normal 2 year warrenty the video upscale is great. its the same upscaler thats in the vsk1019hk and the vsx-23txh. the only difference from the vsx23 and vsx21 is 1 more hdmi video output and a front hdmi input and a 3rd zone. This reciever is not for the beginner hometheater enthusiest.

Love it!, December 14, 2009
Had mine for about one month and so far I am very impressed. This is my very first AV receiver purchase (yes I've been living in the dark ages for a while), so perhaps I'm just easily impressed?
I researched for a long time before jumping into a whole new electronics setup and I was sold on this one for a lot of reasons, but mainly for the inputs -- 4 HDMI input and 1 output is very nice. I found the setup to be very straight forward. In other words, didn't need to read the manual when wiring, just for the configuration of each device -- and they are very configurable. Agree with other reviewers that the video upscaling is very nice. I have had no issues about it switching to TV/SAT mode on startup as one reviewer noted, but perhaps it's just an issue with our differing setups.
I replaced my TV with a projector when I purchased this and have all devices running through it -- DVD, Epson 8100 projector, PS3, laptop, AT&T uverse box. All function great and switching between these devices is fast and seamless. I'm using my AT&T uverse control to manage all devices as that seems to be much easier for everyone than the remote that comes with this. If I didn't have so many people in my household prone to losing remotes on a daily basis, I'd get a better remote to manage it all, but the AT&T one seems to work just fine. To sum it up, I absolutely love my new toy!

Excellent r, November 16, 2009
I did tons of research in av receiver, i had own onkyo 9100 home theater system, pioneer last year 03 elite receiver, denon 2310 and thing ended up with this one, of those 3 brand i had own (onkyo, pioneer elite and denon) no doubt pioneer make better looking due to glossy finish front panel receiver. onkyo has the most ungly design, but has the best useful small remote out the 3, and very easy to program other device unlike the other 2 remote. denon remote is joke and most function you has to turn it back of the remote and only good is the up and down volume. Pionner is more balance of them both.
As for video, denon win hand down, the 2310 can upscale component to 1080p. but audio department is bit weak for denon, lacking of thx mode does hurt a bit. pioneer elite easily has tons of audio feature more than onkyo one i had, onkyo produce more heat that the other 2, while denon don't produce much heat, it leave too many airflow hole at top, which you can't put anything at top, while pioneer only has airflow hole in the first half of the root not the entire top like denon is. and they make good job of hide most chip behind the flow so if water leak to the hole it won't cause much damage.
Only issue i find with this 21vsx i can't get my iphone work! while my last year 03 model work perfect with iphone. i do like they better hdmi outpot last year model, hdmi is pack too close to each other. and thx god the GUI has added this year model, while last year stick with the text interface.
No brainer you can get this receiver easily under $500 from a authorize dealer such as 6ave or your local dealer, this is better deal than pioner 1910 cause of better amp and look. I don't think receiver math the feature, sure onkyo 707 come close, but that thing is heat hunger and audio amp just isn't as good.
