I'm a huge John Denver fan. I was reluctant to buy this but I bought it anyway and I'm very glad I did. I had goosebumps throughout this entire 3 CD set. I've seen John Denver in concert with the entire band and orchestra and that was brilliant. But to hear John Denver singing his songs with just a guitar is something else. This collection makes you wish you were there. In fact, listening to this you feel as if you are there. This is probably the most beautiful live John Denver CD ever released. Forget the orchestra and band, John does brilliantly on his own with just him and his guitar. He sings at least 30 of his hits from his entire career. The feelings you feel listening to this is out of this world. John Denver is one of those artists that always delivers and makes you feel a part of his performance. This CD is a 3 CD set that comes in a tin box but that doesn't matter. It's not what the CD is contained in. It's what's contained in the CDs themselves and believe me, you don't want to miss this collection. This is a must for anyone so buy the CD, put on the CD player, kick back and enjoy the show.

John Denver is my favorite performer of all time and has been since 1970. I don't have ALL of his recordings but I DO have 48 of them.
The reason this 3-CD set has become my favorite is that it is John all by himself, playing either his guitar or piano. There is NOTHING to distract from that incredible voice he had.
The recording is of a landmark concert performed in Moscow in June 1985. The sound quality is excellent.
Were I asked by someone to recommend recordings of John I would first suggest two live performances --- "Unplugged In the U.S.S.R." and then "An Evening With John Denver." THEN I would suggest some of his studio albums.
John had an incredible voice and these CDs are a showcase of his wonderful talent.
I find it heartbreaking that we lost John so soon ...... and I mourn the loss of all the beautiful music he still had inside him.
I recommend this 3-CD set to both ardent fans AND newcomers. You will NOT be disappointed.

i have been john denver fan ever since i can remember and this set is a pure joy with wonderful guitar accompaniments.i was impressed with the rich timbre and textures of the music despite the fact that their was no orchestral back-up which is the norm in most of the denver discs that i possess.in short-a joy to listen to,and beautiful

Wow is all I can say, you wont believe how musically perfect this CD set is. All you get here is John Denver and his guitar. NO backup, just the man and his instrument. I have to say, his performance comes as close to perfect as your going to get. If your a John Denver fan, don't think twice just get it! You will be sitting down in awe and wonder.
He plays before a Russian audience, speaking and singing a bit of Russian in the beginning of some songs, then he continues in English. The Russian people obviously loving his try at speaking their language.
The third CD in the set, is a video of 'It's about time'. Mine played back fine, although I've heard some have had issues watching this video.
Grab this offering before they stop making it, you wont be disappointed!

OK, here's the scoop. The content is great. I am a huge John Denver fan and these are his best songs, recorded live and slightly different than the originals but better.
The weird thing is the CD labels are mis-marked, none of the songs match up to the way they are listed on the label???
Still, a great buy and delivered quickly!

Unplugged in the USSR is amazing. A beautiful 3 CD set that comes in a cool a metal canister. It is an amazing performance of John Denver in the USSR. Just John stripped down to his acoustic guitar singing to you. It is one of the most intimate recordings of him I have heard! Great music in cool collectible tin and it all comes to you for about $15.00. Great CD, Great Price = Great Deal. Pick up this classic performance you will not regret it.

The world is a much sadder place without John Denver. But we still have his essence, his music. I often find myself longing for new songs that I know will never come. But recently I discovered Unplugged In The USSR. THIS, is as close as I will ever get. Any artist performing "unplugged" is usually a treat and this is no exception. Just John and his guitar, no back-up, no orchestra, no drums, no tambourine. For someone who loves to play guitar, hearing the pure sound of John's playing is awe inspiring. Ever want your own personal concert? This is it. Thank you Ron Deutschendorf, you've given me something of John that I will cherish forever.
