My boyfriend absolutely loves summertime snow cones. He will chase the ice cream truck like a 5 year old if given the opportunity. So I thought this was a fun present idea for his birthday about 2 or 3 years ago. The machine is cute, and pretty compact so it doesn't take up a lot of storage space.

We do not have an ice maker, so we rely on ice cube trays. To make a couple snow cones, I tend to think you need more then 2 trays of ice to be honest. It's loud, and quite messy. Ice shavings get all over the place, including the floor and counter. It seems to get stuck sometimes, and it only holds a couple cubes at a time. Also, you have to press the top down juuuust right to get it to work at all. I haven't seen him use it in at least a year, so it might be best suited for a kid. My boyfriends appears to like the ease of freezing juice to a slush in the freezer over battling with this ice shaver.

I got this for myself and my 10 year old daughter. It is very easy for her to do it by herself and I am not worried about her cutting herself on the blades like others we have had. I like that it only runs when you press down the lid so you have better control over it. The only disappointment I had was that I like my ice shaved really fine and this was a bit chunkier than I like, but acceptable.
