As a writer, I absolutely love office products, so I could not resist these notepads. And I'm glad I didn't resist.

They live up to the ad copy perfectly. They are just the right size to enable you to write a short label, so they work out very well if you're studying for an exam or are trying to mark a reference work. I love the wide, clear area at the base of the label, because I can write on that area, plus you can see through it in case it actually covers part of the text of the page you are marking.

The ability to identify WHAT I'm marking has really been a live-saver for me, since I'm working on a historical mystery that seems to entail endless research in dusty tomes.

So none of this is a brilliant revelation for a review, except this: they are rounded.

At first, you might think this just makes them cute. And they are, indeed, cute. In fact, that's why I bought them. I loved the colors and the shape really appealed to me. I had no idea that the SHAPE would turn out to be one of the best features.

Because of their rounded, half-moon shape, they don't catch on things the way square-edged note-tabs do. I've used a lot of note-tabs and page markers in my career, and when you're shoving books in and out of backpacks and book bags, they catch on things and get torn and bent. Square corners are just awkward. And those long, solid color marker always seem to cover some critical text, making them inconvenient to use.

But these little guys have a lovely rounded shape with no corners to catch on things. I can use them to mark crucial references, and write on them to indicate exactly what I'm marking, and when I pull books in and out of my various bags, they don't catch or tear.

I didn't even realize this was a problem until I started using these. I LOVE THEM.

I highly recommend them--once you start using them, you'll wonder why you ever used those other note-tabs.

These avery tabs are available in most retail stores, but this price cannot be beat. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I needed yellow and green (50 ea) for a specific project. I was able to find red and yellow and green with other colors, but only on Amazon could I find green and yellow.
If you need green and yellow only, this is where you will find them in quantity.

I have found that the avery tabs are the easiest to write on, as well.

When ordering , keep in mind that they have only a 1.5 inch writing space and because they are oval, the space for writing is small. I needed to put a 7 letter word on each, so they are perfect.

Okay, most people have used sticky notes and found that they don't really stick if you move them around alot and they're big -- even the small ones are too large for some applications. When I saw these Avery NoteTabs, I thought hmmm might work -- and they do.

What I wanted them for was to put in nonfiction books so that I didn't spend so much time looking for the Notes, Bibliography, Reference, or Biography sections when I wanted to look something up. I put a tab at the beginning of each section with a written note on the tab to indicate what it was (Bio, Notes, whatever). As I read along I'd move the tab indicating the Notes section so I could speedily move to that section to read the note from the main text.

It worked great. I left one tab in just to see if length of time in one spot made moving the tab without ripping the page difficult. It didn't. Tabs peeled up easily and moved to a new location and stayed where I put them. I'm not sure if I moved them more time whether they would still stick but for the length of fairly thick book with lots of notes it worked fine.

You can write on the tab but there is only a limited amount of writing area and it's paper. If you use a pencil you can erase and rewrite. If you use pen, you'd need to use that tab for only whatever you wrote on it or not mind discarding it.

While they stick up a bit better than and the color makes them easy to see they can be used for file folders. However, for me and I suspect most people they main use will be in marking books so that you can return to a spot where you need to go repeatedly and don't want to look. These would also be great for marking the section of books that you need to read for an assignment, or where to go back and get a quote.

I have small hands but large handwriting so, when I received these tabs, my first thought was "How am I going to write on these tabs?" The tabs are attractive, unobtrusive, have a small adhesive footprint (esp. when compared to the Avery 3X3 1/2" tabs), adhere well to paper, remove easily and neatly and would make fine dividers or tabs if you were just marking pages (like tabbing recipes you want to try in a cookbook) without adding any identification to the tab. However, if you plan to write anything more than a few letters or numbers on these tabs to identify what they're marking, you're going to have a problem unless you write very small and, in my opinion, that lowers the usefulness of the tab.

In my 3 decades of experience using reference books for my job, it wasn't enough just to tab a page in a reference book--I needed to identify it for quick reference so that, if I was on the phone and someone needed an answer, I could flip immediately to the correct page of a reference book to find it. The writing on the tab has to be large enough for me to identify the right page quickly...if the writing is miniscule, I'd spend more time squinting to read it or hunting for my reading glasses than answering the question.

In summary, I liked everything about these tabs except for the size of the writing surface, which is why they're getting 4 stars vs. 5. While the Avery 3X3 1/2" tabs have more writing surface, they also have quadruple the adhesive footprint of these 2/x1 1/5" tabs, so I actually would prefer these smaller ones for some applications.
