I have a set of these that range from 5 to 80 lbs in my home gym. They are great for the money but I have 2 complaints. The first is that the paint chips off and falls in my eyes when pressing above my head. The second is that the welds that hold the ends onto the center bar are poorly done. In some cases, they were already loose when I received them. In others, they became loose after use. In the case of the 50 pound set that I was just using, the end just completely fell off. Thankfully, it didn't land on my head. I'll weld it back on, along with the others that are loose (only a few out of 30 Dumbbells), and continue to be happy with them but I'd be really irritated if I didn't have a welder sitting in my garage... or if I were sitting in the hospital. Be careful with these things and don't use them if the ends are loose!

These barbells are garbage. I bought a 30 lb and a 40 lb set and they fell apart. Luckily no one was hurt when the barbell disconnected. I would love to hear from someone from the company to get money back or an explanation for this!

Not much to say really, its a dumbbell- great for the home if you have the space, and I'd definitely recommend getting a rack if you buy a bunch of them.

As dumbbells go, these are some of my favorites. They're very well made, and won't chip or crack- very sturdy. And even if the paint comes off the numbers, the numbers are raised so there won't ever be any confusion as to what weighs what.

I personally like using the hex shape the best. Why? Well, two reasons. For one, when I raise hex dumbbells over my head to do presses or flyes, I seem to be able to balance them better, although I know there's probably no "physics" reason for this, probably all in my head.

Secondly, when I am doing flyes or overhead presses with dumbbells that have large diameter plates, and they touch in the top position, the edges of the plates can hit each other funny and make your dumbbell tip awkwardly- which never happens with the hex dumbbells due to their rounded shape.

But I'm rambling. If you're looking for single dumbbells, these are a good choice and might be the last ones you'll ever need! Also recommend Bulletproof Your Shoulder if you have a shoulder problem that interferes with your workout.

Like everyone says, these are good weights. They feel nice in the hand, giving you good grip and comfort when doing lifts behind the back, etc. However, be careful to purchase 2, as these are not sold in pairs. For some reason, one of the pictures included in the item description showed 2 dumbbells which gave me the impression that it was 2 for the price. While the cost is not bad for a quality product like this, I was definitely surprised that it is a single dumbbell and not a set. Of course, it could just be me who is the dumbbell. Good lifting all...

It serves it's purpose, but when the dumbbell arrived it had paint flaking off of it. Yes, I realize that the chipped paint won't affect how I lift it, but if I'm going to pay money for a NEW product it should look NEW. I could have gone on Craigslist and bought a used dumbbell for less money in this condition.

Ordered 2 45lb dumbbells and used them occasionally for a few weeks. After thinking my arm strength differed dramatically, I took them to the bathroom scale and discovered one of the dumbbells was only 40 pounds, even though it was imprinted with 45!! Amazon was useless, even though I bought them from them. Shipping one back is basically cost prohibitive, PLUS they want to charge me a restocking fee. Considering making this the last time I buy from Amazon.

PS: after a second call to Amazon (after they asked for my feedback on the first call) I found a rep who was willing to help. They are arranging to have a new item shipped and then pick up the defective one at no cost to me. Although this is good and I appreciate it, the first customer service rep really soured me on Amazon, and getting a 40lb weight marked as a 45 would makes me extremely reluctant to buy from Cap ever again.

PPS (March 13, 2013). So I finally got the replacement dumbbell after Amazon helped me out. I contacted Cap to let them know about the problem and they never responded. In total I have received three 45 lb dumbbells and only one of them weighs 45 pounds! The one I am returning weighs only 40, and the replacement I got is a shade under 43. I guess that's closer to the 45 at least. But apparently the quality control at Cap is virtually nonexistent and they must know it, which would explain why they didn't respond to my customer complaint/inquiry. I will NEVER buy from them again and would discourage anyone else, also.
