Purchased THREE of these after reviewing tons of devices & features that limit TV/Gaming/Computer. Been using these for a few weeks now, so here is our review.

We have TWO TV's upstairs (NO.. NOT in the kids rooms, but in mom & dad's room, and the spare room) and the kids PC in the spare room. I have some "to smart for their own good" 12 & 14 year olds that would avoid their chores and also sneaking to use these when we fell asleep, as a result they were:

1) tired in the mornings
2) wouldn't get ready for school unless I stuck dynamite under them
3) behavior &/or inattentiveness at school was becoming a problem due to lack of sleep
4) would say they are going upstairs to clean their rooms, but later rooms weren't clean, and all the TV's were left on
........NOT ACCEPTABLE!

SO.. purchased these and WHALA.. NO MORE ISSUES! These were the SIMPLEST solution out there I could find.

HOW? Well, I put these on the TV's power cords (no TV power = NO Video games, NO Movies, NO TV) PERIOD! and one on their PC's main power cord. No work around, unless they have the key. OH.. and for those smarties out there, there are NO extra power cords that fit into the PC anywhere in our home. If I were a kid, I would have thought of that.

PROS: - Works GREAT! Just as advertised. Simple turn key operation.
- Kids don't give me grief about it, it is like they just "accept" it! Now if I were to yell at them to get off or pack up the games etc, they would throw a fit. This way, they just accept it and move on. Weird I know, but it is what it is, and I don't question it, I just enjoy the benefits.Read more ›

My son is a wonderful kid, but late at night the adhd really gets to him. The kid has no impulse control late at night. As he grew older, we had a real problem with him watching TV at night, because my husband and I go to bed pretty early. You can't make a 17 year old go to bed at 9 on a weekend just to stop him from watching tv. On the other hand, he would watch tv consistently till he fell asleep - we'd find him sleeping in front of the tv the next morning. When this started happening frequently on school nights, we knew we had to do something, and this little box did the trick! When you lock the box, the plug cannot be pulled out, nor the tv (or whatever you've plugged in) turned on. So I put one of the two keys in the safe deposit box and I keep the other key with me all the time. It's worked like a charm. In fact, sometimes I forget to turn the TV back on and so the kids are watching a lot less tv these days! ;).
I do think this kind of thing should be a last resort, that in theory there should be some ability to self regulate. But if you've tried working with your kid and you feel you really need to limit access in a decisive way, this is it.

The first time I used it to lock out my sons tv the cheep plastic case separated and the electrical wires were exposed. My son could have easily been shocked. I am amazed this product is allowed to be sold in the US. This product is cheap and a major electrocution danger.

I am not disappointed. It works exactly as advertised, can not be easily defeated (either the VoltBolt of the appliance power cord would need to be damaged), and it's simple and safe. My only question when I purchased this: how does the TV power cord get locked into the Voltbot?

The answer: very effectively.

I was worried that my crafty little angels would just unplug the TV power cord and or use an extension cord.

No, that ain't gonna happen. It locks tightly.

By the way, I absolutely love the picture on the clam shell packaging: two little kids, looking at a blank screen in horror.

Priceless.

I was dreaming of this device. If I couldn't find it, I was going to make it and market it. It is that cool.

My husband and I have been struggling for control of the tv for years!!! Kids were getting up in the middle of the night and watching tv or playing a game down in the family room where we couldn't hear them. These same kids were half awake and grumpy during the day and falling asleep on their desk at school. No more. Thanks for making something that can help us all get better sleep. Now I can leave the house and if someone is grounded from tv I know that it is not getting turned on while I am away. Brilliant. These should be sold in local stores. More people need to know they exist. My kids did figure out that when the tv was unlocked they could unplug the tv and put in the volt bolt a different plug from say an alarm clock or something else. I check at night that the right cord is plugged into the volt bolt.

Great product! VoltBolt Power Plug Lock-out is a unique security product. It solved the issue I was having exactly as I had hoped it would. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend it.

My only suggestion would be for the designers to add a locking function so it would be possible to turn on the power with the key but keep an appliance power cord locked in the blue box. But this is not a big deal.
