I bought this product because I was searching for some kind of radio that operates without the need of being held in my hand. So it fulfill my first need. I also wanted a product that won't allow me or anybody else to forget and carry it on. Once you put this in your wrist, you will be set to use it. Another requirement was that it has to have VOX options. Which it does. The range I tested it must be in the 1to two miles range. Sound is not perfect but good enough for what you would espect from this kind of radios. Just don't wait it to be clear as a landline. No walkie would be. They came with a rechargeable battery charged to last as long as about a day. Maybe this was the problem another reviewer mistakenly points as hardware failure. Maybe it was a discharged battery.
All in all, this is a good product. For what it is.

Bought these as a present for my nephews (ages 3 and 5). First set didn't work because one of the watches wouldn't turn on, but they sent out another one and the boys love them. A little complicated, but any adult can show the kids the fun parts to use. They have a blast running around the house with these things.

Unfortunately they seem to operate on the same frequency then the cruise ship we were on. The main reason to buy them was keeping track of each other. Like I said unfortunately when turning it on you hear all the chatter of the Ships personnel, which might be good for a spy, alas I'm not.

It's pretty big for a kid to wear on a small wrist. The sound is fairly clear. It has good range. Takes a few hours to charge but holds a charge several hours depending on use. A waterproof version would be great because this is our second set. Our dog ruined one in a creek. We hang one on our dog's collar and she comes to us when she hears our voice and then we aren't yelling for her when we are out in the woods. Wish it was lighter/smaller and so does the dog and our daughter.
