Originally worn by Cuban guava tree growers, the guayabera shirt was adopted by businessman in 1950s Havana and exported by visiting tourists. The Guayabera shirt (gwai-a-Ber-a) is one of the most authentic symbols of Latin Culture. Distinctive for its two vertical pleats, four spacious pockets and embroidery detail, designed to be worn un-tucked.

The guayabera shirt is a traditional Cuban shirt, popular in Latin America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe. It is also referred to as a Mexican Wedding Shirt, cigar shirt, bowling shirt, or Cuban shirt.

In Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Panama, guayaberas are generally considered the most popular attire for beach weddings.

The guayabera is also often an acceptable form of office wear as a means of coping with hot weather.  It is flattering, comfortable, and it makes you look and feel good even when the weather is hot and humid making it perfect attire for any occasion in the summer.
