I really like this injector. I had previously used the smaller, plastic Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Marinade Injector, but after a few uses the clear syringe wall cracked where the needle fitting screwed into it, causing a leak that made it unusable. I decided to try a more robust model and settled on testing the Butterball 2-Ounce Stainless Marinade Injector and the Bayou Classic 5011 2-Ounce Stainless-Steel Seasoning Injector with Marinade Needles models. The solid metal construction on these models gives the impression they will decidedly outlast the injector being replaced. Comparing the two side-by-side, both appear to have almost identical syringe construction with a nice heft and solid feel, but the actual injector needles are dramatically different and should probably be the determining factor for which to purchase.

The Butterball injector uses the same small-gauge shorter (~2 inch) needle utilized by the Raichlen model. For my purposes (mostly liquid injecting pork butts for smoking) this needle works just fine, so it will probably remain my go-to for most projects. I especially like that the smaller gauge of the needle means smaller holes in the meat, which will hopefully minimize leakage once removed. The fact that the Raichlen needle from my broken injector fits the adapter on this unit is a welcome bonus as well.

Great stainless steel injector, with silicone gaskets, should last almost forever I bet. The needle has 2 large holes on opposite sides, which could be a bit of a problem with dealing with small cuts of meat or fowl, but, you can also inject on an angle, or just cover the uppermost hole with a finger or sponge or something to prevent being accidentally squirted :)

My son requested a marinade injector because he's now in Culinary school and wanted to try some new stuff, so, this appeared to be the best one available on Amazon, and I am not disappointed.

This is typical junk made in China, the needle broke at the port opening the first time I used it. The plunger seems to be OK but I didn't really get to put it to any test....

I dont think products are ever perfect however when a product looks and performs like their more expensive counterpart it deserves a 5 star. I just received the product today, just in time to marinade the turkey! It works like a charm. I took the product apart to see the inner workings and here is what I found

+ it breaks into 3 pieces which consist of the needle the main barrel body and the compression shaft , this is extremely useful for cleaning.

+ the shaft that you press down has an O ring that seems to be of good quality and feels very snug (does not let air through when compressing and decompressing)

+ the whole device seems to be made out thick sturdy stainless steel

+ the needle is very sharp and sturdy it punctures very easy and also has two slots from where marinade pours into the meat

+ the shaft you push has ounces drawn on it to aid you in injecting meat

+ 2 ounces is more than enough this thing is huge!

+ $ you cant beat it at this price

+++recommendations+++

Dont put the shaft with the clear O ring in the dishwasher because the o ring is made from a soft rubber/plastic which can get damaged from the heat in the dry cycle. Always hand wash it and dont store it under direct light, uv light will degrade the O ring over time.

Make sure what ever you are trying to inject does is not chunky or lumpy otherwise you will clog it and always inject slowly.

We only got a few uses out of this before we had to throw it out. It corrodes easily & its not stainless steel.

I love my Butterball 2-Ounce Stainless Marinade Injector.
It's got a heavy duty build and should last a very long time, maybe a lifetime if you take proper care of it.
For me it's worth the extra expense to buy quality.

I read many of the reviews on marinade injectors before purchasing. Most of the reviews peg this as a great injector but few mentioned the types of marinades they are using. The description says it will work with any spice or seasoning but that simply isn't true.

So far I've tried two different marinades, neither of which seemed that thick, course or in any way lumpy to a point that the needle should have issues. In either case the injector would clog and not work. It worked wee for injecting very lite things like butter or broth but I could not get it to do much with anything thicker than that.

+ Pure stainless steel, other than the rubber gaskets.
- The needle has an injection/intake hole high on the side, so the container from which liquid is drawn must be held at a sharp angle, otherwise up to 13 mm (1/2") of liquid will remain and the needle will take in nothing but air. This is NOT a design flaw, however -- it is a necessity for proper injection, and is present on most injectors.
