Ordered a pump motor in May and had it professionally installed. In August the motor stopped working. Had the motor uninstalled, inspected, and shipped to "Poolcorp" in Longwood FL. After nearly 1 month from initial contact I was informed that the issue with the motor is not covered. The sited issue is not what the professional that uninstalled the motor told us, was wrong with the motor. When we asked for the pump back "Shaun" told us he didn't know where it was. Today, "Shaun" sent me an email telling me to go pick the motor up myself. Assuming the pump is where I sent it to be fixed it is 167 miles from my house LOL. I have gotten AO Smith the manufacturer of the pump involved, now. Not only should you read the seller's negative feed back, I suggest you read the way the seller handles the comment. I like the one where he tells the buyer !WHERE BATTERIES ARE SOLD! Definitely the overall tone of his response to negative feedback is a clear and direct indication of the way customer service is handled. Let's see how this one is addressed.

We ordered this motor to replace a Hayward Super Pump motor. After reading the label on the Hayward unit I noticed that the motor was manufactured by A O Smith, which means quality. When the motor arrived from Amazon I noticed the box was from Century, another electric motor company. In my opinion, a step below A O Smith. The motor inside was a century motor, the box said Century and in small print under the Century name was" A former A O Smith Electric Motor Company". So A O Smith sold to Century. Not a big problem. The motor was the same design and frame size I ordered with the same specs as far as rpm and horsepower. The issue was when I removed the cover to access the electrical connectors. The small white plastic "circuitry board" where the connectors and voltage switch is located was shattered in about six directions. It's not made of such a rigid plastic that it was still together but cracked all over near mounting screw. It looked as if this might have been a previous return, or recklessly assembled and never checked for quality before leaving century. Since we already started the opening of our pool I was in need of this motor now and couldn't wait for another after returning this one to Amazon. I proceeded to break out the JB Weld two part epoxy and repair the plastic. I removed the mounting screw and applied epoxy to the pieces and held together until it set, then applied more to both sides to seal all cracks and reinforce the rest of the plastic. Once dry and cured after a few hours I was able to assemble electrical connections. This is where I realized what could have happened.Read more ›

The A.O. Smith motor is an exact replacement for the original motor except for the color. Worked perfectly and is humming along at a very low noise level. I have to walk around the house to hear it at all. Be sure to order the new seal kit when you order the motor. And you might want to get a new 1/2 inch strain relief to ease installation before installing a new cord. Strain relief is 40 cents. A new 20 amp cord is about $9.00. Check your old wiring for connections - new motor gets the same hook ups.

Exact match to previous motor, easy to wire up and swap. Took a total of 15mins including removal of the old motor. It is nice to have it since the old one was noisy even though the bearing were not bad.

I have purchased 2 of these pumps in the past 2 years with much regret. The last A.O. Smith pump I purchased lasted 6 weeks. This is the first review I have ever written but felt forced too after spending countless hours repairing my pool. Spend the extra money and invest in something you will not have to replace every year, or in my case 6 weeks.

Wicked nice replacement part for older Hayward Superpump. Was easy to replace DIY - saved hundreds. High quality exact replacement - need to purchase the shaft seals separately to make a complete replacement. pump has been working like a champ since may 2014....non stop

First, I am not expert in this field and this was my first experience with these pumps. The installation was straightforward using information on you-Tube and the fact that this was a replacement for identical pump.

So why 3 stars:
1- Pump was very powerful but it emitted a humming noise that could be heard everywhere inside the house. The noise was very annoying outside.
2- practically no useful installation instructions
3- Not including installation kit
I had to return this and buy ST 1202 model which is very quiet pump.

Some tips for NOOBs like myself:
Be careful following youtube videos when:
1- removing the impeller, I broke mine using regular plier as shown in some of those videos, and had to buy new one. I found out "Oil Filter Wrench, Adjustable Pliers" works better to unscrew very tight impellers.
2- installing the seal, use a little lube and make sure do not touch the ceramic rings on the both impeller and the enclosure end
3- To my surprise all the screws ere rusty when I tries to uninstall and return the pump after two weeks of operation. I painted the new one after installation for additional protection.
