There are several lengths of Fastrack. The most economical in terms of cost per inch of track is the 10 inch track. However, there are times when you want to adjust your track in less than 10 inch increments. For that, Lionel sells Fastrack that is 5 inches, 4.5 inches, 1.75 inches and 1.375 inches. Using different combinations of these allow you to construct sections of Fastrack that are almost any practical length. All of these look the same and snap together the same way. The 1 3/8" track also has jumper cables and a split rail. This is helpful for making a siding for a second engine that you do not want to be powered.

The "retail price" of this section of track according to Lionel is $4.59. Best Service Stores states the "List price" as $12.99. What is their idea of list vs retail?

These little pieces are expensive, but they are just the ticket for completing a track under your Christmas tree that deviates from the "standard oval." I'm not a train guru--just a mom that wants to help her kid have fun. I added a small curved piece (O36), a 4.5" straight and a 90 degree crossover to our set (just the standard pieces that come with the Lionel trains) and had an amazing, wandering figure eight looping under the coffee table, behind the couch and back again. Advice: build as much as you can with the "normal" pieces first and save these special guys for the very last-I-can't-possibly-make-this-work-without-it moment.
