Sorry to say it, but "duped" has been duped again. Duped says you could take 1 tablet twice a day, but this would not be sufficient.

The dosage per pill is:

Calcium 250mg
Vitamin D 125IU
Magnesium 40mg
Zinc 3.75mg

Note that these are very small doses. You need a minimum of 800IU of Vitamin D3 and 400mg of Magnesium, and that's alot of pills to take. They had better not be big pills. :(
For anyone who feels the need to take a calcium supplement, 1,000mg a day is a reasonable dose. My doctor recommends 1500mg a day.

If you were to take 4 pills a day (still a lot of pills for only one supplement), you should be getting enough Calcium, but not nearly enough D, Magnesium or Zinc, all which are very important to take with Calcium. You will need an additional supplement.

If you would like to read an excellent nutritional reference with all the minimums, maximums, and recommended doses, google for the Linus Pauling Institute.

Citracal is a very good calcium supplement to take because it contains the form of calcium called calcium citrate. Citrate is better absorbed generally then other forms like calcium carbonate, which must be taken with food. This version of citracal contains Calcium Citrate, Vitamin D, and also contains minerals such as Magnesium, Zinc, Manganese, Boron, and Copper, which also play an important role in bone health.

This version, Citracal Plus, contains 500mg of calcium citrate per serving, versus only 400mg of calcium in the "petite" version. Not only that, the petite version does not contain any of the minerals described above. I have trouble swallowing the giant sized citracal, so I wanted to go with either the petite version which is smaller, or this "plus" version which is comparable in size.

Overall, I would recommend this version of citracal because it contains more calcium then the "petite" version, and also contains the minerals. They are also very similar in size. If you are confident you can swallow very large pills, you might want to go with the maximum version, which contains the most calcium.

If you are interested in a complete side by side comparison, you can visit the citracal website. I believe this version is the best of both worlds. Smaller sized, and easy to swallow, yet a good amount of calcium and minerals. The dosage is 1-2 tablets twice per day.

Having lost my parathyroid glands in surgery, I must take a calcium supplement with a prescription activated vitamin D. My body does not absorb calcium supplements other than calcium citrate. As a nurse I value the fact that Citracal has excelled in clinical trials. My life literally depends on supplemental calcium and I depend on Citracal.

For those having trouble swallowing these tablets, consider chewing them and then chasing them with a small glass of juice. You'll get even better absorption and they don't taste that bad, just a little chalky. I do this with these tabs, as well as others that are not time release or liquid filled. It's not hard, once you get used to it. I've been buying this product for many years, and I'm glad it's available through Amazon on a subscription basis.

By taking Calcium Citrate (for better absorption of the calcium than calcium carbonate) together with Magnesium, my system is naturally more regular.

I take calcium to help with maintaining calcium levels, as I have celiac disease. Citracal was the go-to for calcium citrate becasue it was labeled gluten-free. I received the product, checked the label, and that labeling was gone. On searching the website, I see that Citracal is no longer GF, the website says it cannot promise that there isn't hidden gluten in it.

I have been taking this supplement for many years now and over time all 20 of my nails, finger and toe, have grown stronger and somewhat quicker. I never have nail breakage nor do I experience skin lesions due to the D3. I highly recommend this as a SUPPLEMENT, NOT the sole source of your daily nutrition.

I have given this product my rare and highly coveted FIVE STAR rating for efficacy, price and easy availability.

The primary advantage of this formulation is the smaller size. If you have difficulty swallowing the large calcium pills, you will probably benefit from having pills that are much easier to get down. I've never before had difficulties with large pills, but I decided to try these when I noticed an occasional pill getting stuck going down. These eliminated that problem completely. Of course, you have to take more, smaller size means smaller dose, but two of these taken together still go down easier than one big one.
FYI, I also take multivitamins, supplemental iron, and AREDS vitamins, plus eating greens, so I get the full FDA rda of everything. If you want everything from one pill, it'll have to be a BIG one.
According to my primary care physician, calcium citrate is by far the best way to take calcium, and actually helps to protect against the various calcium related ailments brought about by aging. He says it also reduces formation of kidney stones, which calcium carbonate can increase. So, use your best judgement, and remember your mileage may vary.
