It's a simple thimble, but a useful one if you're familiar with sashiko. I don't always suggest using it if you're just starting out, especially if you're only using lightweight fabrics, but it is much more useful when pushing a needle through multiple layers of fabric. Western quilters may need to learn to adapt to the Japanese style of stitching to understand how this thimble works, but once you've got the hang of it, it's very comfortable. I wear mine for hours when teaching and stitching. With the elastic adjusted to the correct size, it becomes almost unnoticeable.

The quality is typical of Olympus, which is to say good for the beginner and fair for the advanced sashiko stitcher. There are other leather thimbles out there of higher quality, but it's not bad. I definitely prefer this one to the metal disc thimbles.

Simple, lightweight. Protects your thumb, finger, or palm. It all depends on how you wear it. Way more versatile than a traditional thimble. this is made of leather, but held together with elastic. This makes it sturdy and comfortable. Purchased it to sew "scout" patches to uniforms with shoving needles into my hand. Works great
