If you need this switch then you have no choice but to buy it. It works fine, the wire is plenty long enough and the light lights up when the inverter comes on. I wish it included the front panel information but that's a different matter.

Edit: this panel can be replaced using a momentary switch between two pins of the 6 pin cable. Looking into the connector end, with the locking tang upwards, then count the wires from right to left 1 2 3 4 5 6. Momentarily connecting pins 2 and 4 will start or stop the inverter. I left all other pins disconnected. A LAN cable would probably work though I didn't try that.

My power inverter is tucked away in the back of my van, and this switch is mounted inside the van's wall panel. I'm able to manually turn on my inverter whenever I need power to work inside my van. The switch does what it's supposed to.

- The button has to be held down for 1 full second to either turn on or turn off the inverter. This is a good feature (or "feature") because it makes it a little less likely to accidentally operate the switch.
- The button is recessed, which is yet another feature that makes it harder to accidentally press the switch.
- It has a green LED that tells you if your inverter is on.
- It would be nice if this panel also has a LCD display telling you the voltage. I'm talking about the same LCD display that's already on most inverters themselves. That's OK, I mounted a separate voltage display next to this panel.
- This panel is smaller than a typical house light switch panel. The product dimensions on the Amazon page is wrong (7" height!). The actual width and height are roughly 2.5" x 3". Perfect!

I used this remote panel to switch the inverter where the inverter is kept in an outbuilding near the battery bank. I used a 50 foot cable and had no problems switching the inverter. It does use a six conductor 6P6C cable (also called RJ12). The switch is small enough to be set in a single gang blank face plate.

I bought this remote panel to control my Xantrex inverter. So far the remote panel has worked fine to turn the inverter on and off. If the remote panel had shown the inverter input DC voltage as shown on the inverter itself, this remote would be much more useful and would have received 5 stars.

The remote Xantrex switch was easy to install with provided hardware (4-mounting screws and 6-connector wire). Flush mounting is accomplished with a small rectangle hole cut in a wall or cabinet. I cut the 25' supplied wire and install a new 6-pin phone connector on the end to customize my installation. 6-pin connectors are available from Radio Shack or other retailer for around $1 each (installation crimpers are required). The panel has a single GREEN LED that illuminates when the button is pressed which indicates the inverter is turned ON. No more running outdoors to turn ON/OFF the inverter when needed!

I wanted a hidden onboard inverter for my RV's entertainment system. I don't like wires hanging around and don't need to use the outlets of my inverter only one that is permantely wired to the outlets in the RV. Well I'm not getting under the bed every time I want to start up the inverter.

Which by the way if the inverter shuts off for any reason you MUST restart them manually. i have this mounted along with other switches that do other tasks. The cable is plenty long enough if you need longer its a standard phone cable.

Its also nice to turn on and off at will. Your inverter will use some power at idle. like 7watts still if not in use you can use this to turn it off an on

I wish it also had a voltage monitor. I ended up having to put one in somewhere else as again getting access to my inverter is a pain.

Every inverter that is permanently installed should have one of these. Remote on/off, with status indicator. On the back is a switch that you can use to make sure that the inverter does not run unless the car/truck is running. Or, don't use that function, and just have a simple switch. This switch just makes sense most of the time. Your inverter will not be on needlessly, or cycling on and off with the key. Easy install with the right tools. It's about 2"x3", and you need about 1 1/2 inches of depth for the back of the switch and wiring.

So, after my installs, this is how it works:

1 The truck is started.
2 I press the Power Button.
3 I use the inverter.
4 I turn off the truck or press power again to power down the inverter.

The inverter does not power up with the key. You manually turn it on, every time.

Option B: (not looking for 12v input at the remote switch.)
1 Press the power button.
2 Use the Inverter.
3 Press power again to turn off the inverter.

Works well since I located my inverter behind driver seat. I bought a project box at local electronics store and mounted this switch in it and velcro'd to dash, since I did not have a good mounting location for this.
