I ordered the 10' cover for a new dwarf meyer lemon tree. It is planted in the ground, not a pot. I put in 4 stakes around the tree and fitted the cover around it. Because the tree is not in a pot, I put a few rocks around the bottom of the cover to make sure it stayed in contact with the ground during wind. It works great and the lemon is doing great after a few freezing nights and I expect it to get through the winter. I can see that this size cover would also work well with a really big pot. I would recommend that you fit it during daylight hours and then loosen it and take it off and wait for the freezes for application.

We live near Conroe, TX where the temperatures drop to 25 a few times in the winter, occasionally to 20, rarely below. So these covers with stakes are pretty nice for a quick install and look nicer than sheets or other non-purposed covers. The material is lighter weight than a heavier cotton sheet, but it is sufficiently dense to get the job done against frost. It tends to shed rain better than a sheet and does let the plants breathe, unlike plastic. The stakes match grommets about the perimeter to assist anchoring the fabric against winds, but unless you can spread out the fabric across your plants and have the anchors come down to the earth just right, you will need some weights or other anchoring means to assist holding the fabric down. Also, we found in our premium, soft bedding soil, the stakes do not hold nearly as well as in the natural clay beneath our grass sod. Also the grommets will easily pull out of the fabric if you try to gather the fabric around the stake to pull it out of the soil, but I doubt wind force would be enough to pull out the plastic grommets. In a few places we put tape on the fabric (to prevent tears) and used "Orbit DripMaster 65731 1/2-Inch to 5/8-Inch Loop Stake" we ordered from Amazon to anchor the fabric. This worked well and did not pull out as readily as the plastic stakes. In any case remember to ANGLE the stakes so the pull of the fabric is working on the stake laterally and not in line. One other thing to keep in mind is the weight of water because if the fabric is pulled across several small shrubs, for example, water collecting between them may weigh enough to pull adjacent stakes out of soft bedding soil. It is better to leave a little slack in places and live with the fact the fabric will raise and lower with the venturi effects of the wind passing over (like a fabric convertible top). I took off one star for the grommets being a little too easy to pull out. Other wise, we were very happy with the product.

This product arrived late but in good condition.
It is working well and is as described.
I have used a similar product in the past but it was unusable after one hard winter.
However, it did have two places to draw the cord closed. Because the circumference of this one so large would be helpful to have draw cords at opposite sides.

Works very well on my fussy gardenia - so far it has kept the poor plant alive through several 12-degree nights. It's worth the $ if you have a plant or plants you would like to make sure stay alive during the winter.

We have a large amount of plants and here in Texas, experience wide range of cold weather fronts. These are not only easy to put on and off but work really well.

Big tarp and relatively inexpensive. Has some holes or securing, but I use bricks to secure with metal binder clips (used in offices) to close off any openings. Not very heavy duty so pointy branches will eventually poke thru if there is any weight on them, but this is meant for occasional cold snaps if you're in a temperate part of the country. The dark green color probably doesn't let a lot of light through so probably not good for long term covering. It is fabric not plastic, so easier to maneuver and fold and lets some moisture through when it rains.

We use plankets on all of our plants to protect them from cold damage. We live in north central Florida. We have plants which our weather confuses so they blossum thinking it is spring and we have a hard freeze. The plankets keep us from losing all of the blossums. I have even sewn two of the planket sheets together with a large round planket to make a cover for our adult Valencia. Getting it on is fun but it has kept the tree undamaged for years. Having sat under the cover, I can verify it is warmer than being outside the cover.

This is the first time we have gotten the stakes so the jury is still out on them. Generally we use old fashioned clothes pins to keep them closed and where we want them.

We also use old shipping material when we have really tender plants or really hard, long freezes. Air pillows, bags of old plastic bags, and bubble wrap help insulate under the plankets. In addition they can be used to keep the outer protection from touching the plant. Five gallon buckets of water under a planket next to a tender plant will provide a thermal battery.

We dropped from 80 degrees to just under zero with the windchill - all in a day in Dallas, Texas. We had just installed Gerbera daisies (which are used more as annuals in this area) for our early spring landscaping. I rushed to buy these covers to try to save about 200 dollars worth of flowers. I bought the large 10x20 to cut into sections. I double layered the sections and put a towel on top of each area as I had read that some people still lost plants with just the Planket as protection. Despite me pre-watering and covering, the flowers all froze. In fairness, these flowers are not happy below 40 degrees so pushing it to zero for almost 24 hours was just too much for them. However, I would have expected them to look better than they did with 2 layers of Planket and a towel over the top. They lost all the flowers and about 95% of the leaves. The plants are still alive, but will now have to totally regrow. I think this is a great product for light freezes but it won't produce miracles if the temp. drops much below freezing.
