These items do not biodegrade in landfills.

"FTC Concludes ECM BioFilms Made False, Misleading, and Unsubstantiated Claims About the Biodegradability of Plastic Products Treated with Its Additive" (search for that headline to bring up the FTC link)

The FTC says:
"Based on its own examination of the evidence, the Commission also found that ECM made implied claims that plastic products treated with ECM’s additive will biodegrade in a reasonably short period of time, or within five years, and that these claims were false and unsubstantiated. "

The company that makes/sells the EcoPure additive tells you themselves that their "biodegradable" claim does not represent the average landfill condition:
"Plastics made with EcoPure® are biodegradable* in both aerobic and anaerobic environments, making them ideal for landfills, where most plastics are discarded.
*Biodegradation rates of EcoPure®-treated plastic materials measured according to the ASTM D5511 test method. Tests are generally conducted using 20% to 30% solids content; solids content in naturally wetter landfills range from 55% to 65%, while the driest landfills may reach 93%. Actual biodegradation rates will vary in biologically-active landfills according to the type of plastic used, the product configuration, and the solid content, temperature and moisture levels of the landfill."

In other words, their tests were conducted in landfills with 2-5 times as much liquid content (which aids in microbe mobility) than actual landfill conditions.

This is 100% false and deceptive advertising. I returned them.

The box implies these are better for the environment but this is false. No material is ever taken from a landfill, so it makes zero difference if it were to break down in the landfill, it is still stuck in the land fill with billions of others of its kind.

The objective of modern-day landfill engineering is to PREVENT trash from breaking down because toxic methane gas (10x worse than Carbon dioxide) is produced during this kind of anaerobic decomposition. Breaking down is actually a bad thing.

FYI "Biodegradable" does not mean compostable - upon reading the box, these are not certified compostable either, and will not break down in the requisite 180 days in compost facilities.
This type of pure "greenwashing" makes a bad name for green companies truly doing the right thing.

These are biodegradable in a landfill NOT COMPOSTABLE! (still better for the planet than regular plastic, but not as eco-friendly as they present themselves. Seems disingenuous for Amazon search of "compostable dinnerware" to bring these up.

Just what I've been waiting for! After trying many of the corn and potato plastic cutlery these are a welcome change! You'd never know they aren't regular plastic. They're sturdy and work well. Unlike most of the corn plastic, they also hold up perfectly in high heat.

I want to do what's right for the environment, so I did some research on these. The ecopure that they use is legit and really allows these to be biodegradable.

But the best part of all is I can throw them in the trash. There are never any compost bins around when you need them, so I ended up throwing away most of the other corn plastic items. I couldn't believe it when I found out that the corn plastic doesn't biodegrade or compost in a landfill.

These really work well, are priced right and I don't have to stress out trying to find a compost bin. Great product!

As far as I can tell these are not made of recyclable material but injected with some unknown compound that suppose to help the brakedown only in a proper landfill environment. They are feeding polypropylene etc to the earth microbes.
Not a renewable resource!

I ordered these forks at a time when I was up against some serious deadlines at work and I didn't have much time for routine things like doing a lot of dishes. The forks are sturdy-- honestly I cant tell any difference between these and a high quality plastic fork. They seem to be heat resistant and do not break easily. Probably not your go-to for eating a nice steak, but still a great product. If they biodegrade the way the company claims, I will rest easily in knowing that my temporary reliance on disposable flatware didnt add to the landfills.

Very misleading - these are actually just plastic forks with an additive so they biodegrade slightly faster than the regular plastic forks - they are absolutely NOT compostable. Very disappointing!!

they work and feel like old school plastic ones, not feasible or obviously different in any functional way. the box they ship in is like 20% smaller than other brands for same fork count. you can tell they designed these with shipping them in mind which extends the green nature of these considerably. no sharp edges or flash to cut your mouth while using. buy these no plastic old plastic ones.
