I ordered these pencils when looking for an alternative to the brand my daughter's school recommends due to said companies addition of Microban to the product. As far as I knew, a pencil was a pencil for the most part. I was wrong. My daughter is 6 and is hard on pencil tips. With that other brand we had to sharpen the pencil multiple times just to get through her homework. She has now done homework and drawn for hours on end without breaking a single tip. I have only had to sharped it when actually dull, and it sharpened easily and smoothly. The pencils draw a cleaner line than that other recommended brand, and they definitely erase cleaner. At this point I wouldn't go back to that other brand, even if they did stop using the pesticide which is saying a lot when you consider that I can't buy these locally and they are more expensive.

My father was an engineer. My mother's family owns a company that custom imprints pencils. I grew up in the 60's and 70's surrounded by high-quality American pencils. The Cedar Pointe is the equal of any that I remember from my childhood. The unfinished cedar smells wonderful and sharpens easily. The black eraser erases cleanly. The lead is smoothly consistent and doesn't wear rapidly.
These are far superior to any other reasonably priced pencils. High-end Japanese products like the Tombow Mono 100 are in the same league, but are over ten times the price. The Cedar Pointe is only a little more expensive than the vile cheap discount store pencils made who-knows-where from who-knows-what. Do yourself or your children a favor and buy these high-quality US-made pencils.
If you don't care for the bare cedar finish, General also makes the Semi-Hex, which is just as nice and finished in yellow.

Some of the best pencils I've ever used, recommended to me by several artist friends of mine. I never thought much about #2 pencils, but I'm seeing a real difference in the quality of the lead & the line work they produce. I keep them in an office drawer, & they make it smell like cedar (the pencils are made out of cedar). Every time I open the drawer I am greeted by the smell. For some reason this makes me smile. If you are adverse to the smell I would not recommend them though.

I am an engineering student who solves 30+ problems a day on paper. I have tested several brands of pencils, Paper Mate, The Write Dudes, Palomino, Forest Choice, Dixon, and many more.

Lead 4.5/5
Eraser 4/5
Grip 5/5 (Natural cedar!)

General Pencil Company by FAR has the best product (Made in USA as well!). After trying all of these brands, I have concluded that GPC is the only brand that will do the following:

*Holds a point for long durations of writing

*Feel and smell good (natural cedar wood, no chemical coating)

*Have an eraser that lasts almost the duration of the lead

*Sharpen smoothe every time

After trying virtually every brand of pencil and reaching an informed conclusion, I bought 12 dozen of these and will probably never need to purchase a pencil again... unless I give too many of them away!

Remarks:

ForestChoice did have a SLIGHTLY better eraser than GPC, however the quality of the lead was only a 2/5 (will NOT stay sharp)

Palomino had equally good lead, however they also have a glossy unnatural feeling coating, and a terrible eraser.

The Write Dudes were good mid-range pencils with 3.5/5 lead, 3.5/5 eraser, 2/5 on feel. (Usually contain a chemical coating which does not grip as well as cedar)

Dealing with GPC's customer service is horrible.

Exactly what I wanted and have come back to reorder. So many pencils today are just plain NASTY! The wood is vile smelling and the erasers just smear the work.

These pencils are different. The wood is fragrant-a pleasure to use. The erasers work very nicely as well.

That's it. Simple

Ah...also, the "lead" graphite takes a very good point, seldom breaks, feels good as a writing instrument, and lasts.

I am a pencil and pen connoisseur. Most women need high quality shoes, I need high quality pens and pencils! I hate when the lead of pencils break off and / or become dull easily. I also hate how erasers don't usually work and fall off the pencil. Well the lead on these pencils probably need sharpening less than half as long as a normal pencil. The erasers stay on and really erase! The only thing I disliked was that my son's first grade teacher said they were too sharp for him to have in the classroom. Well that is not the pencils fault, but I just wanted to mention that! My older 4th grader teacher did not say anything.

I like these pencils so much that we are stocked up with around 6 dozen:)

I do a lot of math work and I do not like mechanical pencils. I had been searching for the perfect pencil and I have found it. These cedar pencils are gorgeous, smell wonderful and I enjoy the color of the lead. Worth the cost.

Good Value accounting for Cedar Wood and Made in USA better compliance to non-toxic chemicals or substances.

Caution:
Be very careful not to choose any shipping method / speed other than default of Standard. Otherwise, Cell Lounge Inc. will charge $29.99 for two day shipping twelve pencils.
