See the photos I posted. For the price, the rack is very well made and finished. Nice, thick strong white finish. The hooks are slender and elegant, with nice satin finish. This is a very nice looking rack! My one complaint is that the mounting design limits your options - in my opinion - to mounting on the solid wood crosspiece on the back of a door or onto a solid wood wall (NOT 1/4 inch 4 x 8 sheet paneling!). There are only two mounting holes, and you are given two white-coated mounting screws (it wouldn't have killed them to throw in one extra because these are not even close to high-strength steel fasteners; it is easy to damage the slots if your screwdriver slips). The mounting hole centers are 25-3/8 inches apart. Wall studs are 16 inches or 24 inches apart (usually 16 inches)... no match there. To wall-mount using the white screws you would have to use compression-type anchors. Since drywall is basically crumbly chalk between two sheets of butcher paper, the anchors are going to come loose over time. Throwing coats on the rack and snatching them off exerts forces and movement that will loosen the anchors. I just wish the racks had the usual holes with wood plugs to cover up the head of the fastener. Then you could use molly bolts, which would be reasonably secure, and which allow you to tighten them up if they start getting loose. If you do decide to mount this on drywall, I would recommend using the fat, threaded anchors made especially for drywall (two brand names: EZ-Ancor, Zip-It). These will last longer than the cheapo plastic expansion anchors, but even so they are likely to loosen eventually. Regardless of the type of hole, the rack would be much more secure and have a much higher weight capacity if the manufacturer had drilled three or four mounting holes instead of just two... but that would take away from the elegant look of the product.

I bought two of these from Amazon thinking the hook rails were solid wood. They were not. Kids hung wet clothes on the hooks and almost immediately the seams of the veneer covering of what turned out to be press board opened. Not worth the effort to package and return this product. I am throwing them out. For my purposes, I need a solid wood product.

This is the finest coat hanging device I have ever purchased with my own money. It looks nice, was easy to install, and does the job better than my manservant Jeffries who tires easily when forced to stand against the wall. I would have given this 5 stars if it heated my coats. My personal physician tells me I have "cold shoulders". Also on principle, its a set of hooks on a plank of wood. Five stars seems far too grandiose.

In summation:
Buy this and fire your manservant.

I put it up with drywall anchors and it holds 5 coats. The hooks are the right distance apart so I can see them all and hang one up without pushing the others aside too much. I love ordering something basic and it just WORKS with no weird surprises...

This is nice enough for the money. The hardware looks good and is fairly nicely made. The "workmanship" on the white wooden board part is laughable on the one I got - the beveled edge is wildly skewed. Luckily it's not that noticeable, given the color and where it's mounted.

This is 3-5/8" high and 27" wide, and the mounting holes are near the ends, so the holes are 25-3/8" apart - which means it can't typically be mounted with both ends into a stud. Try to put one end at least into a stud.

I'd considered just putting a new hole in the middle-ish somewhere to get another screw into the stud, but it seems like overkill at the moment. If it starts to work loose, though, that's an option for those with a drill and bits - add a hole so two screws are in the stud. It won't be that noticeable, especially with things hanging on the hooks.

This protrudes from the wall about 3-3/8" (with drywall anchors, a little less with screws). It's about 3/4" deep, so a #8, 1-1/2 screw seemed about right to me (for a stud or an anchor). Stainless steel screws are expensive, but the color is a good match for the hooks on this rack; and they are so much stronger and more reliable than the usual cheap zinc plated screws.

I like it, but it hasn't seen heavy use yet. It's more affordable than buying five hooks and making my own coat rack, which is what prompted me to buy it. I agree with others that the holes are oddly spaced considering standard stud spacing.

I ended up mounting a length of 1x4 poplar on the wall to have solid wood to screw the rack into. The 1x4 is the same height as the rack, but it ends up extending past the left and right side to be able to catch multiple studs and extend to the edges of the rack. I might have been able to cut it flush with the edges, but I wanted to ensure that it was securely fastened to the wall. I made sure to give equal spacing so it would be more visually appealing, but it isn't ideal.

I haven't had more than a few coats on it at one time so far, and I have yet to see how it holds up to heavy, wet winter coats. I may end up adding a couple screws in the center for peace of mind.

I would prefer if the rack had been manufactured with screw holes at 16 inch intervals and included beefier screws.

If it fails, I'll salvage the hooks and mount them to solid wood.
