Situated in America's Heartland, the Obery family has been farming in rural Metamora, Illinois for six generations and over 134 years. What began as a 127-acre farm in 1874 has grown to nearly 3,000 acres.

This documentary was produced by Levi Obery and his grandmother, Marcella Obery, in celebration of the 135th anniversary of Obery Farms in 2009. Production began on May 1, 2008 and was completed 14 months later on June 27, 2009.

The film depicts life on the farm from the beginning when the family moved to the United States from France in the early 1870s and worked through sweat and tears to become the successful and thriving enterprise that it is today.

The Obery Farms DVD is a reminder of what family values are all about. With the history of the Obery farm founder in the 19th century, to the present day, this is a love story that an Illinois family has with the land, their neighbors, and each other. There are lots of good old-fashioned values that seep thru in every frame. It is interesting to see how farming is truly a business that depends on computer forecasting, GPS capability for planting, fertilizing, and harvesting. Everywhere one turns, there is new technology. This is not a long DVD, but the message is very clear -- farming is not for everyone, and the challenge of passing on 3000 controlled acres in a family is a real challenge, especially when death intervenes. We want this movie to end well, and we pray that the Obery family traditions will carry on well into the end of this century.
