I have this positioned 8" away from my basking platform and it reaches the temperature recommended for Red-Ear Sliders. Havn't had any early burnouts, but I do replace every 6 months just to make sure it's putting out the correct light required for optimum health. Extremely durable, I've dropped the bulb housing several times when cleaning expecting to see the blub shattered and never run into an inssue. I even cracked the porcelan housing of the holder and the bulb was fine. This could be a well designed housing instead of a durable bulb, but I'll give props to both.

I've purchased many of these, as they're pretty much the only game in town, and they rarely last more than a month or two. Massively overpriced, they seem designed to fail very quickly. I'm writing this because the last one lasted only two weeks and I'm sick of being ripped off.
I don't touch the glass and don't disturb the lamp in any way - they just fail.

So far (1 month later) hasn't popped and turtles love it.
I would recommend using a deep dome fixture - even though its made to take moisture and splashes.
My turtles have destroyed this bulb before with a few hard splashes but since i switched my fixtures this has been more reliable than the standard UVA bulb. Lasts up to 6-7 months before burning out.

Update : 6 months later and it finally popped. I've left it on longer than 12 hours on many occasions and surprisingly it held up. I made sure to not turn on and off the lamp quickly or too short of a time.. letting it have time to completely cool down is important.. i've learned that causes the bulb to burst / burn out more quickly.

Worst bulb ever. It was delivered yesterday I installed it, had it on maybe 3 hours turned it off for night time. This morning I turned it on, it was on maybe 4 hours and it blew and shattered into my turtle tank. Glass everywhere. I'm just hoping I got it all out and my turtle doesn't get injured or die. Very upset.

My favorite bulbs to use when I had my painted turtle. Kept his basking spot nice and hot, and I didn't have to worry about water splashing onto the bulb and damaging it. Great item. Also super convenient to purchase online instead of having to go in-store!

My painted turtle absolutely loves this lamp (75 W version). I had a different lamp before, and he wasn't basking much. As soon as I installed this lamp, he went straight up to his basking platform and stayed there. It has a nice warm natural yellow glow. At 6 inches from the top of his shell, it heats the top of his shell to a little over 90 degrees F, as measured with a Mastercool infrared thermometer. This is about the perfect temperature for basking according to many painted/red-eared slider web sites.

(Note that this lamp doesn't provide UVB, so I use another lamp for that.)

My turtle was in such a hurry to bask under this lamp that he crawled up and over my hand while I was still adjusting the ramp to his basking platform. He spends a lot of time under it, seems to keep him happy and healthy.

When it worked, I was very happy with this bulb. It sufficiently warmed & lighted the terrarium, thus I was initially satisfied.

The problem is that it only lasted less than 2 months on a timed 8 hour daily schedule. The glass is totally intact, however the filament broke. It hasn't been touched, moved, or wet.

Of course, with an expected burn duration of 3000 hours per Hagen's website, I'm quite a bit short. I got less than 1/6th of the advertised life expectancy, to be exact... I'm going to pursue a replacement from Hagen & if unsuccessful, through Amazon.

Good luck finding a quality bulb that truly lasts REMOTELY close to the advertised life. You won't find it with this one.
