So many makes, sizes, gauges, lengths, types, of Speaker Wire to pick from out there, so what kind of speaker wire should you buy? When it comes to speaker wire, HDMI cables, and other related wiring & cables for your Home Theater or stereo setup, save your money and avoid the Marketing Hype surrounding the Big Brand Names that can often cost an arm & a leg when its all added up. There are many quality reviews about speaker wire out there by very knowledgable audiofiles. This review is for the 80% of you looking to buy speaker wire for your home theater or upgrading from cheap speaker wires you don't like or that don't work for you. I've used all kinds & types myself, and "yes" I've used the High End Brand Names too in past. I bought 2, 100-foot rolls of this C&E Speaker Wire. One roll was the CL2 rated wire for running inside walls & attics, etc. they were both 14-gauge. First of all, C&E gives you a true 100+ feet of wire vs some that short you. When I say it's easy to use, the clear insulation is thick, yet flexible, allowing you easy routing of the wire around bends, room corners, and especially at the point of connection at your receiver, TV, and the speakers. Some brands are very stiff and hard to work with. Secondly, positive & negative sides of the wire are clearly marked & easy to read. This will help prevent you from accidentally connecting it backwards and causing equipment damage. I won't try to explain in detail how signals are transmitted through various thicknesses or gauges of wire so just know this: the smaller the wires gauge # is, the thicker the wire is. So 14-Gauge is thicker than 16-gauge. Pure, Oxygen free copper is one of the best conductors of audio signals and this C&E is high quality copper.Read more ›

This was just as advertised with no surprises. It arrived as an unbroken 100' reel of accurate gauge, pure Cu heavily insulated wire. I used it exclusively to run cable for my 5.1 system. Even though it is well insulated, the insulation is more "rubbery" than "plasticy" so I was able to make some tight turns with it as I ran it under my house and up through the walls.

I was very happy with this product and feel it was the best value I could find.

When you compare this stuff to even "cheaper" name brands like NVX, a spool of their 100' OFC 12awg is a cool $129... this stuff was $37 with Prime shipping... cannot beat that deal, typically a 100' spool of real OFC in this size is at least 50 bucks... I was a little skeptical but its the real deal. You have to use a utility blade or something sharp to split the two wires apart but thats not a "deal breaker" to me at all. I actually bought this to use as speaker wire in my 3way car stereo and use the leftovers for my 5.1 system at home. Most would think a 12awg OFC is overkill for car speakers/tweeters, however im running 500w RMS to each midwoofer/180 to each tweeter so getting nice speakers wires is a must.. would def recommend to anyone who needs some REAL OFC wire, this stuff is heavy duty

Solid, stranded copper speaker wire. Easy to strip, signal quality is great. Highly recommended. Wire comes on a mini spool and is marked with a red stripe on one lead.

This is the scenario.

I'm an audio engineer and I purchased three popular speaker wires in 16 gauge from amazon. Included were AmazonBasics, RCA and C&E, the first two are copper clad and the third is pure OFC.

I convinced an associate of mine to allow the testing to be done at his facility, which only cost me some time in repair work that he needed done and some lively conversation over a sip of Gentleman Jack when we were finished.

I then lovingly created 6 foot and 30 foot cables of each wire and set out. This engineer's control room is certainly adequate for testing speaker wire.

It's built with no right angles, it uses dual density walls and floor and has bass traps and foam strategically placed to listen in front of his console. We used his mid-field monitors, which are Bag End MM8's that are powered by a Crown Reference 2 amp at about 350 wpc, pretty nice equipment.

We compared the wires against his own, against each other and in the different lengths. We listened to tracks in mono, we listened to samples, we tried drum tracks and piano.

We both agreed that there was a tiny difference in sound between his $250 cables and 30 feet of 16 gauge. We also agreed that 6 feet of 16 gauge made no difference. But we also couldn't say that the change in sound was bad, only that we thought that it did change.

Totally impressed with this product. Seems it's getting very hard to find fully copper wire at a reasonable price. Well here it is folks and it's great. I ran fifty feet to each of my Energy speakers and they sound is great. Buy it.
