I purchased these tints so that I could either adjust a color of wood stain or glaze for either woodworking with oil and water based products or for faux finishing on my walls. These are the most versatile tinting mediums because they can be mixed with either water based products or oil based ones. I like them for faux finishing on my walls since I like to mix my colors from scratch, but I also use them for adjusting a color or value of a premixed glaze or paint. I recently used them for wood finishing and found the tints great when I mixed them with an oil based stain to do the woodworking in my new home since many of the 25 doors and door frames were unfinished. I purchased a wood gel stain called Java from General Finishes and I mixed it with the color "black" from my Mixol tint set. It turned into a beautiful ebony color and I'm thrilled with the results. I even had to mix the colors in batches since I had to use several cans of stain, and the results looked perfect. I started with trying to calculate a ratio, but I realized that all I had to do was to compare the colors between one batch and another. I did the comparison on a white background so that I could see the true value. Q-tips on white paper are great for this job.

The Mixol tints are considered to be the best in the world. They are made by a company in Germany so all the color names are written in German. They have a chart with English translations but I find I don't even use them since I use color recognition mostly when I tint colors. There are also a number of oxide colors which are so great to use since they use tones that are inherent to earth colors. I like doing Tuscan colors and these tints are perfect when you want to get a warm glow like "yellow ochre.

Use this to tint epoxy. Works realy well with only about 4-5 drops per cup, and you get a really dark color. You can use a little less, and have it still a little transparent. Am sure it has a lot of other uses, but that is all I have used it for.

We had to get 20 pinewood derby cars painted for a cubscout pack. Rather than buy 20 shades of paint, we got clear water-based polyurethane and basic white paint then mixed each car to order. With blue, red, yellow, and black, we were able to custom mix colors to please each of the scouts and we didn't break the bank doing it.

I also have other tinting products for paints as well as stains but I needed some more universally applicable colorant. After researching to find a really universal, quality product, Mixol seemed to get the nod as the best overall. I agree, but the only problem I had was that the label colors are in German. That made the use of the products in stains more difficult for me, but I was finally able to download a chart which had both the English and German names. Color mixing is always a process of trial and error, but I really needed the English names in order to get the right tones for stains. Easy to use product though once I got over that hurdle.

Color: Yellow Oxide Verified Purchase
Mixol Universal Tint worked out great for my project. I was painting a project metallic gold and needed to prime it before painting. I used the Mixol Universal Tint in Oxide Yellow #5 to tint the primer for the project. This worked out great. It's the first time I've tinted primer to a color close to the shade I would be completing the project with. I can tell you the project went so fast this way. The Oxide Yellow tinted the primer close enough to the gold color top coat that the paint went on fast and the project turned out beautiful. I'll use Mixol Universal Tint from in the future for all my projects. With this particular project I used a quart of primer to one bottle of Mixol. The primer turned out a light yellow gold. If you are doing a large project you'll need more then one bottle. The one quart to one bottle ration worked out great for my project.

I've tested a full spectrum array of the "MIXOL" tints. They have worked flawlessly in my project. It's the most concentrated, and error-free than anything I've used. All other tints/colorants tend to be made for specific chemistries. But Mixol does exactly what it says, being useful across the board! Complete dispersal is achieved with no negative mixture modification or degradation. MIXOL is equal to any tinting colorant added by purveyors of paints and coatings. Terrific product!

This stuff works great. I use literally ONE DROP to tint clear epoxy to make a walnut-color goo to fill big gouges in classic speakers and hi-fi cabinets. The result is far superior to Plastic Wood. I also use the Black to tint Plas-T-Pair to repair chipped or broken radio knobs and other parts. Better than Evercoat. Mixol contains no binder, so you can add it to oil- or water-based stains, glues, or finishes.
