I just got mine working and it looks promising but it was a rocky start. Right out of the box the software wouldn't install (windows 8.1). I emailed the company and they sent me software that worked apparently a zip of the directory after it was installed skipping the installer. Of course it was installed in Chinese. But I figured out how to switch it to English. Now I'm not getting the probes to calibrate correctly. there's about a 340mV offset between channels when they are probing the same point. I haven't checked with a reference scope yet which channel (if either) is right. They are responding to emails and referred me to the help menu which doesn't seem to work either. Since they are replying to email at least I have hope things will eventually be resolved.

P.S. with the correct calibration instructions everything now seems to be working fine. it was a rocky start but it looks like it will be a handy piece of equipment.

I really like this "scope". I have a TiePie Handyscope HS3, which has two channels and a SIGNAL GENERATOR which works very well. This DSO-5200A does not have a SG but does have an EXTERNAL TRIGGER that the HS3 does not. In additon, this DSO-5200A has posts to perform probe calibration where the HS3 does not. The HS3 is a 100mHz scope, while the DSO-5200A is a 200mHz scope. I'm doing some QI stuff now, so needed something over 100mHz anyway. The BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM - The HS3, when I purchased it years ago, cost $1600.00!

The 2nd channel on the HS3 stopped working and the folks at TiePie wanted over $200.00 (by the time I paid for shipping to and from Denmark), so I looked for alternatives and really liked this one. The HS3 SG still works so now i really have an SG and 3 available Oscilloscope probes.

I did run into a problem with Winders 7 64-bit. After around 1 minute of scoping a 1kHz, 1v square wavefor, I received a popup winder that complained that the application had stoped and that winders was going to close the application. I got the same problem with the DSO-2550. I contacted HanTek, described the problem and was instructed to "disable the ANTIVIRUS software and try the application again". And that "fixed" the problem. That software will run till the cows come home now. However, around 60 seconds after I turn the ANTIVIRUS back on, the application crashes. I
am running BitDefender Antivirus.

I have not field tested the DSO-5200A, but have no doubt it will out perform the HS3 providing of course that I'm not using BitDefender Antivirus.

I did not purchase this on Amazon, but I've had this model for over 1 year. It developed a serious problem after the warranty expired, so I contacted the distributor, who did not offer much help. So I contacted Hantek directly and asked to return the unit for service.

I expected to pay for freight both ways (to Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China) and expected to pay for repair services. To my surprise Hantek fixed the unit and shipped it back airfreight for $45. It was back to my address in a little over 1 wk after it was received by Hantek. The repaired unit is back in action.

So customer responsiveness is excellent.

The unit is powered by the USB connection and doesn't take a large work area footprint. It ships with two decent probes and a very nice dual trace DSO application with analysis and waveform output to file features. You will spend a lot more for this functionality with conventional DSO equipment.

I do driver development for automated test systems and very often have target hardware hooked to my laptop via JTAG or other means, so I wanted a good USB DSO to make everything nice and portable...i.e., able to do dev work at a coffee shop.

I looked at a lot of DSO's before I bought this one. Many of the others had features I liked (the BitScope product is interesting). In the end I really wanted just a scope though, and the Hantek 5200A appeared to be the closest thing to a midline-quality, big-name benchtop scope. It was also one of the most expensive, but after buying it I know I did right. The 9-bit vertical resolution was a big selling point for me and you'll really notice this performance when the scope application is fullscreened. The trigger system works good, all the usual features and no surprises. The pulse triggering feature works fine. My unit also does not display any of the DC shift problems that other reviewers have reported in Hantek products. I haven't pushed it above 25MHz yet but an Agilent arb gen showed a good linear response from 0-25MHz, visually flat. The math trace function supports all the usual modes including difference mode A-B, probably the most useful mode for me. The scope software supports FFT and capture, image save, etc. One complaint with the scope software, the color choice for the channel sensitivity knobs makes it hard to see the pointer. Not a big issue as the gain appears in a digital display nearby. The software is a bit power hungry, but it runs quite well in a WinXP VM on a Macbook Pro. It might get chuggish on pre-Core hardware.

The body of the unit is plastic, bigger than most other DSO's but it's reasonably light and about the same height as a typical laptop when closed.
