4b lead is awesome for drawing. The quality of this lead is great. The package design is really appealing. The number of leads is also relatively high compared to other brands that give you fewer leads in a tube, and therefore waste resources on unnecessary packaging.

Finally, a dark lead. It does write smooth as butter, doesn't break easy, and actually didn't smear with a casual touch, like other brands. I am super impressed, but, I am going to go to the .7mm pencils to get an even darker look, but I'm only going to by Uni leads. These leads are awesome. If you want a .5mm lead that is dark, does not smear unless rubbed hard, on regular notebook paper, and writes smooth, this is that lead. If you want an even more vivid lead, go .7mm which is what an artist suggested on another site for people that want really dark writing. Hold on, let me check its erasability, is that a word? .... It leaves only a trace in the places I pressed down harder, but erases very well. I hope this helped someone, because I could have used a review like this too before I purchased them.

Uni is known for their pencils. These leads didn't disappoint. I wanted something darker to write with so I don't have to press hard to see letters on a pad with yellow paper and these leads did the job. I would have liked them to be a little darker but 6b ones are not available for 0.5mm

This 3B lead is very great in my perspective.

It is soft enough to make dark lines when pressing lightly but not so soft as so to break easily when average pressure is applied.

It definitely helps me realize more that it's mostly not the mechanical pencil that matters, but the lead that you put inside of it; for me anyway.

Very nice dark lines!!!! I am now a convert to Uni brand. I use to love the paper mate leads as they seemed to be the smoothest of the pencil leads, but now trying UNI, huge difference. These are also so much stronger, I haven't broken any of the 0.5mm and only broke the 0.3mm twice getting over board on drawing. These are so worth trying, they are beautiful to draw with when you want fine detail or drawing in smaller sketchbooks on the go.

I bought the 4B on October 2014 and I certainly loved it. But the way I use it, my drawings seemed slugged and didn't give me room for detailing so I ordered 3B and it's perfect now. I highly recommend these leads, 4B for writing and 3B for drawing with a lighter hand.
