We always come back to Simple Solution for our dog's accidents (or upset tummies). However, today, I crashed a bottle of red wine on a pretty absorbent wooden floor. The stain was still there after I wiped and washed. It came to me to try Simple Solution. Amazing, it took up almost all the stain after soaking the area, rubbing it in a bit and putting paper towels over it. Came back in an hour and it was nearly miraculous. The stain came up to the paper towels.

We're animal lovers so we get the occasional accident to clean. Whether it be number one, two, or vomit, this has done what others have not. Even erased an older stain that the pros didn't remove. I would recommend trying it.

We have four small dogs, and although they are house trained, accidents occasionally happen.

I tested this on a couple of stains where one of our beloved pack members, in their younger days, had sneaked behind the couch to leave spots on the rug, and I only recently discovered them. Obviously these stains were somewhat dated. This cleaner did as good a job as I've seen of removing the visible stain with one application. One application is: spray thoroughly, wait five minutes, blot, and allow the remainder to dry ... according to the makers, the enzymes are still working on anything that is left.

I checked a couple of days later and while I could not easily identify where the stain had been by sight, when I got down and sniffed there was still some odor. As dog owners know, it is important to get out the odor since once an area is stained, the dogs tend to regard it as an OK "bathroom area". So this time I just sprayed the spot heavily and let it sit for 24 hours. Checking after that, there is still a slight odor to me, but very slight. Unfortunately that is from the human nose's perception, NOT the canine nose! LOL However, the odor of the cleaning solution is stronger to me than the odor from the stain at this point, so maybe it will also override the canine sense of the area. Neither odor, stain or cleaner, is perceptible to me from any distance whatsoever. I literally had to lie on the floor and put my nose two inches away to get a whiff of either.

So while this product may not, from my experience, be the miracle cure the ad copy claims (and what ever is, really), I consider that it did a better job than just about anything we've ever tried before. Only the Oreck "problem stain" remover is in the same class of products we've tried, and it costs two to three times more than this cleaner does. I would put this product equal in effectiveness to Oreck's, so the difference in price makes the difference on which one you should consider purchasing.

... even a trace amount leaves a miasma of odor. We've sent things to professional cleaners repeatedly, only to receive a "clean" item that still has a lingering funk. (If you're considering this product, you know what I mean.) This is bad not only because nobody wants to live like that, but because any lingering odor will encourage the pet to keep going there.

Enzyme cleaner is really the only thing that works for items that can't go through a normal wash. (Carpets, upholstery, dry-clean-only items, bulky items...) Simple Solution (this item) and Nature's Miracle are the two main brands, each with its partisans. Simple Solution happens to be what I use.

Some important tips for how to use it:

* Use a LOT of the stuff, and use it two or three times if you need to. I have poured an entire gallon bottle onto a single ottoman (in two applications, using a carpet steamer in between). For comforters and similar items, I put the item in the bathtub and *thoroughly* douse it with enzyme cleaner, then let it soak for a day, then hang it up to dry.

* Where possible, you want to FULLY rinse the item after soaking (again, a bathtub works well). This is obviously not practical for furniture or carpets.

* The enzyme cleaner smells! (An alcohol type smell, with its own unique musk.) However, unlike the odor you're getting rid of, it WILL go away with time. If the item can't be rinsed, it may take a week or longer, but it will disappear.

* I've had good luck using Simple Solution products on wool, down, and other sensitive materials. I have fancy down comforters that are good as new after being peed on multiple times, heavily doused in Simple Solution, and rinsed with cold water. But your results may vary! Definitely use a test spot if you have any concerns at all.

About 6 months ago, I adopted a dog from the shelter who liked to mark--A LOT. He basically claimed each room in the house as his own by spraying his scent around. He was recently neutered and that has helped a lot, but he's not yet "cured" (getting there slowly but surely). Anyway, the product has helped surprisingly well. Previously I've used Natures Miracle, which smells bad and doesn't live up to expectations. This product smells much better and has definitely gotten rid of urine stains on the carpet--even old ones. It still doesn't stop my dog from going back to the same spot (hence the 4 stars rather than 5), however. But, it does get rid of the pee smell and stains, so that's good enough in my book. I would recommend this product for the occasional pet accident!
