Very disappointed in this. I bought the 3 cup version and it worked perfectly, but 3 cups is one big cappuccino for me. I ordered the 12 cup because I used one while staying in the Dominican Republic. It was great. Enough coffee for me and my husband, with enough left over for an iced coffee in the afternoon.

I should have known something was wrong as soon as I opened it. The stem of funnel that holds the coffee is much narrower than either the 3 cup I bought or the 12 cup I used in the DR. The first time I used it, it was fine, but every time since then it makes about 2/3 as much as the 3 cup. 1/3 the water travels up the stem. The coffee just tastes burnt.

I've gone on line to find a replacement. There are none to be found.

The pot is a thick and heavy aluminum so I am guessing that the durability will be good. The only thing that really could go wrong is the washer seal between the two halves which looks like it could easily be replaced.

The coffee is certainly not espresso. With regular drip grind it is actually a fairly weak cup but with espresso grind it is reasonably strong. I bought it for camping as I always seem to get impatient and remove the percolator too soon. If I am brewing for others I will still probably do the percolator for the increased yield. I would count on drinking it as straight coffee and buy the size accordingly. With the "12 cup" size I get just less than 2 mugs of coffee (about 20-22 ounces).

I've been using the same 12-cup espresso pot for over three years now. I use it every day, sometimes twice a day. I have had no problems with the construction of the pot, no broken handle or less than full brewing. I must say though that the original gasket that came with the pot (a gray rubber gasket) was the best one. The first replacement was a clear silicone one which excuse my language sucked! I then ordered the Bialetti replacement. It comes with three gaskets and the replacement filter (in a nice, new, sealed package). I would suggest using the new replacement filter that comes with the new gaskets. These seem to work almost as good as the original gasket. I get the occasional spew of coffee on the stove but it's minimal and I still have a full pot of coffee, I attribute this to me having filled the reservoir a little above the little safety valve, but hey, I'm usually half asleep when I make it so…who cares! I can deal with wiping coffee off of the stove better than a broken handle. Sometimes you just have to pick your battles!

I ordered a second pot to have on hand just in case my handle ever did break. The new pot was constructed slightly different. After holding them side by side we realized that the new one had a slightly shorter stem that didn't reach all the way to the bottom of the reservoir and was not a tight fit in the top of the reservoir which didn't allow for the perfect seal. That pot went back immediately and I just use my original one and pray every single day for it not to break.

I am very happy with this Espresso maker. It's perfect, huge even. Had an Iced Latte this morning. Ahhhh
I've been needing a new one, so leaving my other one home (I'm at my daughter's for a month), I bought this one.
Only problem I have is that the people I purchased the previous Espresso Maker from. Was also supposed to be a 12 cup. It is about 1/2 the size. How would I know how big it's supposed to be??

So Thank You Thank You for selling me what was advertised! I appreciate it!!

This is a good little coffeemaker for those of us who are purists and like to grind our own beans with excellent coffees and demand the finest capabilities in our brewing spectrum. While the handle broke off it was fixed quickly with some crazy glue and it seems to be holding up well. I use it all day and every day. It does the job.

I'm really disappointed with this product! We had the same model in the 6 cup size before and it was mostly great (our handle did eventually snap off but that's because we dropped it on the hard floor, not because of anything wrong with the coffee maker). When it came time to replace it, my husband and I were finding we'd often make a second pot of coffee in the afternoon and thought the 12 cup would save us a little time and effort. But there are a few major problems with the scaled-up size:

1) It's IMPOSSIBLE for a normal person to screw open and closed. No matter how hard I screw the pot together, it always leaks. I'm not the kind of person who normally has to go to my husband to open jars, etc, but my 6'4" spouse is the only person in the house who can properly seal this thing so it doesn't leak everywhere on the stove! I never had this issue with the smaller model.

2) The handle is super flimsy and thin. Even though the pot is larger, I don't think they sized up the handle at all from the smaller models. After just a month of use, the plastic handle snapped completely off during completely normal use while I was attempting to (you guessed it) unscrew the top so I could make a batch of coffee! It's now impossible to pour hot coffee out of this thing without an oven mitt on both hands. And it's even harder to open and close.

On the plus side, I do have to say it makes great coffee. It's just literally impossible for people with normal-sized hands to use, and it's not durable at all. Apparently I've just passed the window for a refund, which is really disappointing. I'll be replacing this with a smaller model.
