These cables are solid, I have no doubts that they will hold the equipment (small speakers in this case) that we used them in conjunction with in the event of the mount failing. They will obviously work for the lighting they were originally intended for as well, but really any mounted equipment (under 60 lbs) can be used with these and some well secured L brackets to add an extra layer of safety in your installation.

It's a safety cable, alright. =)

The cable itself is smooth and has no rough spots, so it won't mar your gear. The bindings are equally clean and the clip is solid. It has caught two fixtures for me and shows no signs of wear.
