I wanted to give this item 5 stars, but really couldn't. It is very, very convenient to use, which is why I wanted to try it, for camping. It is convenient to bring and to make.
But it really lacks in flavor. Even though it has 'peppers' in it, the whole thing is bland. I shook the can as directed to make sure everything was well distributed. And it says it has sausage in it, but there is the flavor of smokey bacon throughout! So I had brought along some extra freeze dried peppers and some freeze dried onions, the second time I tried using the MH Breakfast skillet I added extra peppers and the onions. It improved the flavor some. Definetely need salt and pepper too.
I actually took ketchup and honey mustard, mixed it together, and spread it along the top of the breakfast skillet to add flavor. With all that being said, rolled in a burrito shell, it did give us a filling breakfast. Not great, but good. Convenience was great. So, although the flavor was not all I wanted it to be, alone, I can certainly add spices etc. If I didn't have to do that, I would have given it a 5 star. Would order again for camping.

ADDED: I wanted to add, some info I left out. Freeze dried eggs compared to dehydrated (which I use and don't mind too much themselves when mixed with peppers onions cheese etc) but Freeze dried eggs are WAY BETTER! The flavor is close to fresh eggs. Dehydrated eggs have an 'already cooked' flavor. Freeze dried eggs do not.

UPDATE: I have been experimenting with the skillet breakfast. It's also sold in smaller packaging to be used with a tortilla shell...anyway, to start with anytime I am going to use this I START by adding, onion, garlic, mixed peppers, salt, pepper(after it's rehydrated), and a little crushed red pepper flakes.

This foil pouch contains 4.73 oz. of hash browns & eggs. There is alot smaller portions of pork sausage, peppers, and onions. The label says this pouch is good for two servings. Each serving has 13 grams of protein,27g of carbs, 22g of fat, 880mg sodium, 295mg of cholesterol. I followed directions and poured 1 1/2 cup of boiling water into the pouch and stired. Let sit 9-10 minutes and ate. I used 8" flour tortillas and made two generous burretos. I added some pepper and other seasonings as I felt the taste was a bit bland. I was very full after my two tortillas. I put the pouch on a scale and it was 9oz. Which means around 8oz of food ready to eat. Was not bad at all and very filling. Now the pouch does have a manufacturing date on it, but no shelf life or expiration date. This pouch did have an oxygen absorber packet inside ,to enhance the shelf life. My pouch was exactly six years old when I ate it, and I didn't get sick. I don't know if the taste was different than a newer pouch. I'm thinking you could open the pouch and split it up into three equal zip lock bags. Add each pouch to 1/2 cup boiling water, presto, you have a filling snack or breakfast. . I felt half a pouch was a bit too filling, and I am 6'6" tall. I hope this is helpfull.

I have NEVER had this kind of food before. I've always been curious though. It seems really convenient... especially for camping or for emergency use. This seemed like a great opportunity to try it out. I followed the directions to the letter and didn't deviate one bit.

Preparation was easy, open bag, remove the oxygen absorber, add 1 cup boiling water and stir. Reseal for 4 minutes. Stir. Seal an additional 5 minutes and eat.

I could immediately smell breakfast when I added the water which I took as a good sign. It smelled GOOD. My mouth was actually watering. Looks wise it was a little less appealing, kind of like a mushy casserole... but this is what you have to expect when it's all mixed together. The taste was good too. I think the smell might have been slightly better than the taste though.

Consistency wise I had a few issues. Some of the larger chunks of egg did not fully absorb the water so they were still hard in the middle and not pleasant to bite into. Once I bit into one I could tell right away. I avoided large chunks like that there were three in all. You can't get a fork to cut them so they are pretty noticeable. Also I found a piece of gristle in one of my small sausage chunks which was a little gross, but you get that with sausage that just goes with the territory there.

I DEFINITELY would get these for camping though, they are super simple and if the rest of the meals have this quality of taste then I think they would be a hit with my family. They would be way easier to pack and store and certainly much easier to make!!

Great breakfast. Package is good for several servings. I break it down into 1 cup serving sizes and put it into ziploc baggies. Then I heat up my water and just add the mix to my cook pot. Saves space and you don't end up making more than you can eat. Seriously, this package is a huge portion.

I bought one of these at mega-low-mart to check out the flavor before I buy a bunch here, and I am glad I did. The instructions called for 1 1/2 cups boiling water, but after adding that to the bag and waiting 10 minutes it was clear that it was going to be more of a breakfast soup. I dumped it in a skillet and cooked off the water which helped the texture by a big margin, but it was still very mushy. I did not make the wraps, and I think that as a wrap filling it may be somewhat better than eating it straight, but either way it is too salty for my taste. I snapped a pic of the stuff after I dumped it into a skillet to reduce the moisture content a bit. On the positive side, there is quite a bit of food in a small package, would feed 2 people if used as wraps, and it does not look bad aside from being watery. Though the appearance and texture really will depend on how smashed up it gets, mine was not treated rough and still had large chunks of eggs, and other bits. I'm going to try some other entrees from MH, I am sure there is something better than this on their menu for breakfast.
