I was so tired of being dive-bombed by the deer flies in Southwest Florida that I ordered five different products that promised relief from "biting flies". The first thing I tried was Deep Woods Off. Unfortunately it did nothing to protect me and I continued to be harassed and bitten by these nasty 'jaws with wings'.

The second thing I tried was the highly rated sticky tape that you attach to your hat that promises to attract and trap the flies. This was even less effective than the Deep Woods Off. In fact I had to use the old P.T. Barnum adage to describe the effects as "there's a sucker born every minute". That sucker in this case was me. The only way I could see it working was if you applied the tape to a tennis racket and swung it at the biting menaces.

The Coleman 100 Percent Deet is the only one that has worked so far. While I'm still being buzzed by the little critters, none of them has landed and done any damage on any part of my body covered with this spray. The two drawbacks that I've noticed include that you can sweat the product off pretty rapidly--requiring frequent reapplications--and that the plastic cap has melted (in the Florida heat) and fused itself to the nozzle, requiring some effort to separate the two each time I use it.But with those two little problems considered, it has still kept me the little buggers from driving me absolutely crazy when working in the yard. That in itself is worth four stars.

NOTE: OF THE FIVE PRODUCTS I BOUGHT AND TRIED, THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT EFFECTIVELY REPELLED THE FLORIDA DEER FLY. THANK GOD THERE IS SOMETHING OUT THERE THAT WORKS! THE ONLY OTHER SOLUTION IS TO WEAR LONG PANTS, A LONG-SLEEVED SHIRT, GLOVES, AND A HAT WITH FLAPS AND MOSQUITO NETTING. KUDOS TO COLEMAN!

When in comes to DEET, there is no such thing as better or worse brands. It's all the same chemical, so shop for best price AND compare concentration of DEET in product you're buying. I recommend this product because it is highly concentrated at 98% so it should last a long time between applications.

It kept the mosquitos away. what worries me is that it ate the clear plastic cap that goes over the pump. It also eats any plastic it gets on. I had on a pair of safety glasses and sprayed my face and instantly ruined the glasses. I don't want to spray any thing on my skin that eats plastic that fast.

I use this stuff when I go on mountain hikes. Other stuff with less than DEET 30 will fail after you get a good sweat going and so this spray is needed if your really in the woods. Its small enough to put in your pocket or backpack, and I keep one in my car too!

In Costa Rica, I use a dab of this on the pressure points (like people do with cologne and perfume) and that's all I need. With lesser Deet percentages, I have to spray everywhere. This goes in a pocket or bag and doesn't leak.

Love the mosquito spray. I used it while I was traveling in Panama, where mosquitoes are EVERYWHERE. The reason I gave this three stars is because the bottle leaks! This wouldn't be a problem except it destroys the fabrics and leathers in comes into contact with. Definitely keep it in a ziploc bag, don't trust that bottle cap seal!

Took this to the Boundary Waters in June and it definitely kept mosquitos away. We lucked out and I didn't really have to test this on black flies, but we weren't bothered by Minnesota's unofficial state bird our whole trip.

I do wish you got a bigger bottle for the money. We were probably a little overzealous in our application, but this bottle barely lasted two people five days in the wilderness.

I used to buy another brand I would get from the local bait/tackle shop when we would vacation near the shore. I bought a lot but when I ran out I could't find it online so I tried the Coleman brand. I was equally happy with the effectiveness of it and will be buying more in the future. I use it when I'm gardening so I'm a walking fly repellant because the one thing that can get on my nerves and loosing my "one with nature zen" are flies and other sorts or nature kamikazing me in the face.
