I wanted to write a review here as a few people seem to be misinformed. These are coated screws, and just like any coated screw the finish will strip a bit as you screw in. Its the nature of the beast. If you are worried about that, use the SS versions. I myself use these coated screws on my deck where I am drilling through the top of the board, and use the SS screws for when I'm able to use the jig and go through the side.

There is no difference in the performance of these screw VS the stainless version with respect to wood splitting. Overall very happy with this product.

these are the best way to install a deck. no screw heads sticking up because you use the kreg gig and put them in on the side.
