I'm a big PF fan and based on the many great reviews that I read before renting this, I was disappointed once I finally got to watch it. Of course the song "Echoes" is one of their finest works (full "Live at Pompeii" version is presented on this video. But you can find that same version for free on You Tube.) So, I disagree that this video shows PF at the peak of their creativity, I believe they peaked with Dark Side Of The Moon, and there is not enough new content in this short video (short if you subtract the 25 minutes that Echoes runs) to prove the claim that Meddle was the "peak".

This is one of the few in the "Under Review"--Videos that I've watched that is just Ok.
While what they say about rthe album is true. Because of D.S.O.T.M.--this one is
treated like the step child---and doesn't get the attention it deserves., and you
would think that--after all this time--Dave/Nick/Roger/& the Late Richard Wright--got tired
at some point--talking about Dark side and The Wall., and for something like this-maybe
they would only get Ricahrd to talk about this album. --even if it was just an old interview.
But with this one--it's not the case. You just have about 4 or5 guys thorugh out--and the
Late Peter Banks (former yes Guitarist)--talking about this record. Again--it ok--not bad
for a $3.00 rental. But it's not like I would watch it over, and over agin.

This one is for the Pink Floyd geek in all of us. The movie has some great footage and interesting graphics where no footage exists. The movie draws contrasts and comparision with other bands that were popular at the time and features actual recordings of Pink Floyd's (and others) music. The movie draws heavily from expert testimony which begins wear on the viewer after a while. I felt like I had heard enough testimony and was ready to turn this movie off about half way through. More variety, more plain narrative and maybe a woman's perspective in the testimony dept. would have made this movie stronger. Still, this is a worthwhile movie if you are a hardcore "Meddle" fan and you want to know more about the influences that went into the making of the Meddle album.

The first 30 minutes provide a digest of the band's history and have little to do with Meddle. I was expecting an in-depth discussion about the material on Meddle alone, and having seen and read many Floyd related biographies, those first 30 minutes were a bit dry. Having said that, I did find the movie to be moderately interesting overall. It does contain some very rare footage and interviews with people like Norman Smith who worked with the Floyd first hand. I would have preferred to hear more from those directly involved in the engineering and production of Meddle, but that was really not provided here. The live performance clips are skimpy, and the film contains a factual error by omitting the album "Obscured By Clouds" from the band's discography and claiming that Meddle is the predecessor to Dark Side of the Moon, when in fact, it is not. The album preceding Dark Side was "Obscured By Clouds". The film should be retitled "a brief history of the early Pink Floyd leading up to Meddle".

If you want to discover some historic knowledge on the original Band, this is a great documentary. Syd Barrett, Rick Wright and of course the MAN David Gilmour give you a great perspective on the true art of music.
