I bought this for my 8 yr old Grandson and at first he had a difficult time in hitting the small golf balls. But he has progressed to the point that he makes solid contact on 50% of the balls I pitch to him. This may not be good for young players who are not all that into baseball as my Grandson is a baseball fanatic. If you do buy this make it a point when starting out that any contact is good. Especially fouling the pitch straight back. The more they work at it the better they will get. I know that working diligently with any training aid will produce results. However this aid seems to have gotten some terrific results with my GS as he has not struck out once this season and has reached base all but one time.

My son was an OK hitter before getting this. However, after wards he is a more consistent hitter in terms of making contact (as long as he doesn't try to kill it lol). Definitely one of the better training tools out there. Get the extra balls though...

Perfect training aid for little league. Kids love to try and hit the small balls with this bat. Really gets them to focus on the ball (eye on ball drill) as they realize they are not even going to get close to it without the focus. Good weight, length for 10-12, 12-14.

if your son or daughter needs some help with hand-eye coordination and tracking the ball when swinging, this bat will help a lot. My son's willingness to take a full hard swing and ability to consistently make contact and hit increased a ton. He went from hitting weak grounders and pop-ups to hard line drives. I was amazed.

I generally use this along with the matching Ping-Pong size balls as a warm-up before games. It gets the boys to focus on tracking the ball and it builds their confidence. I tell them if they can hit a tiny ball with a thin bat like this, hitting a regular baseball with a regular bat should be much easier.

Since the people that make aluminum wiffle bats went out of business my brother and I have searched the internet over for a black magic wiffle bat but those things are like gold these days. We used to play in a league that used them and the 'ping' off a metal bat is so much more satisfying. I started looking into speed training bats to use as wiffle ball bats so here it is.

The only piece of information I couldn't find anywhere was the barrel diameter. It seems like this is pertinent information but I guess since it's just meant for practice and training no one else cares. For the record the barrel diameter is just a hair under 1 and 1/4 inches. Your standard yellow stick is 1 and 5/8 so it's considerably smaller than the standard wiffle bat. Most wiffle leagues have a diameter limit of around 2 inches or so. That's why I bumped it down to a four star rating. If someone would take the 30 seconds to post the barrel diameter then I would have saved the time searching and maybe the money if it wasn't right.

Having said that, we play tested with it today and it still works as a good addition to our bat choices. It kind of has the feel of the pro option so to speak. It is slightly more difficult to get a solid contact on the ball because of the smaller diameter, but because it is about 3 times as heavy as the yellow stick when you do make contact the ball grows wings.

It's got a good solid one piece construction and doesn't feel cheap in the hand. The handle grip isn't super plush but again, it's made to hit small plastic things, not baseballs. The amount of padding seems appropriate for what it is and it's on well.Read more ›
