this opera is gorgeous, like all the Rymsky Korsakov ones. I don't think the style derives from Wagner, maybe only from his first 3 operas until Rienzi, but those I feel like they follow Berlioz's style im enjoying so much late 19th century's operas. before where a forbidden time for me, if there was no coloratura & belcanto, operas weren't worth, but after I listened to L.Price's 1st recording of forza del destino, the one with Richard tucker, I started on a roll up getting operas of this period, I don't know what the plot is all about, bcos when I listen to an opera I just pay attention to the music & vocal performances as if they where instruments in the orchestra. this one sounds great, im very taxing with singers voices, since I come from belcanto works & didn't got a deception. soon after I hear another 15 new operas of that period I bought together, I will have the chance to re-listen to it, but first impression was very good
