This type of switch is usually associated with controlling the power of holiday tree lights, and is usually sold as a convenient foot switch that you step on to turn the lights on and step on it again to turn the lights off. Another popular use is to assure an “absolute off” to certain appliances that don’t have a power switch or those that have touch-sensitive switches that may be accidentally powered on by a child.

I have used many of these switches, both for control of power only and also those that incorporate built-in dimmers. I’ve never found a brand or model that didn’t work … it is an inherently simple design that operates exactly like the common wall light switch. There is really very little that can go wrong with them. There is one exception to that rule and that applies to the push-on/push-off foot switches that have a little round enclosure. They work but don’t last very long, which I suspect has to do with the fact that you operate them by stepping on them. The spring-loaded switch ends up being too delicate for long-term use.

I found this Stanley model and liked the design – I could hide the switch itself in an inconspicuous place because of its small size. I included a photo with this review to indicate exactly how small the switch itself is compared to a U.S. quarter dollar, it is much smaller than I expected.
In operation the switch is very definite in its on/off motion, operating with a firm click. I like that. And you can visually see if the power is on or off, unlike the foot switches.

I almost didn’t buy it after reading the reviews that claimed it was defective because in the “off” position a string of LED holiday lights still had a faint glow.

I measured the resistances since somebody said he/she got one which did not terminate correctly. All three delivered 0 ohm when switched off. I repeated on/off a dozen times or so, resistance remained 0 on off.

All three cables are in use and work.

Works great, very durable, great design. I am using this switch to power lights in my living room, previously I had them powered with a light switch, but we moved a desk in front of the light switch. So now we run this cord into the desk to easily turn the light on and off.

What is pictured is not the same as what you actually get. It's still beige in color but it's a smaller rocker switch instead of the nice push button switch that was shown and to ship it back will cost me at least half the price of the item itself. Not happy at all!!

Perfect for what I needed it for! I frequently read in bed at night, but don't want to get out of bed to turn off the bedside lamp. The lamp plugs into this extension cord, and the on/off button can be placed wherever you like. Mine is attached to the headboard of my antique iron bed. I just reach over my head, turn off the light, and I'm out for the night. My original one got lost in moving, so this is my second purchase of this item. From a good name in electrical products.

This is a great switch and it is 10 feet and polarized as described. But that's the only thing that was true.

The picture shows a white cord, with a push button and plug-in coming out of the side.
The reality is the cord is beige, the switch is a black toggle switch, and the plug is just the standard forward plug. None of those issues made a difference to me, but just a warning to others.

So for the switch itself, I give it 5 stars
But for the false advertising, I give it 1 star

This product has many practical applications such as to control Christmas tree lights when your tree covers the electrical outlet that is used to power the lights. I am using it to control the power to my computer sound system. The power switch for the system is on the back of the subwoofer cabinet and the cabinet is in a place where the switch is not readily accessible. This product is well made and should last for years and years. I am completely delighted with it.

I bought this item to replace a similar one that I've had in use for over 20 years. I use it to turn a bedroom lamp on and off while I'm lying in bed since the lamp in question is at the other end of a long dresser, and I want to be able to turn the lamp on and off without having to get out of bed each time. The lamp used to have an array of five 60-watt bulbs but now has five 13-watt CFLs that put out the equivalent amount of light. The old switch and cord was beginning to worry me because of its age -- the cord's insulation seemed a bit stiff and I wondered if the switch might not fail. It just did fail a couple of days ago -- I went to turn the light off and had to wiggle the rocker switch to get that to happen, so I installed this new Stanley 31324. It's the perfect replacement. The one real difference is that the new one has a rocker switch in a small rectilinear plastic housing and the old one had the rocker switch in a flattened oval housing that was much larger. I used 3-M mounting tape to stick the switch to the side of the dresser right next to the bed so I can always find it and doing that with this one worked perfectly. I like it.
