These speakers look nice, but that's about all they have going for them. The 50W peak power is a misleading specification. Their RMS power, or "average" power is much, much lower (it is not mentioned anywhere in the manual). I have a set of 2.1 Boston Acoustics speakers with 7W RMS on the sub and 1.7W RMS on each of the satellites that are MUCH louder than these.

The two satellite speakers in this set aren't that bad. They produce a loud, but average sound (reasonable for the price point). However the subwoofer is terrible. It simply doesn't pull enough power. They might as well have not even included it.

There is a simple explanation for this. The power supply inside the subwoofer only outputs 13W (that's for the entire system). There is no external power brick.

Bottom line: if you're looking for an affordable set of computer speakers with a minor bass response, these are fine. But if you want to listen to music, or care about the low end of your sound at all, stay away.

I rarely give a product a bad review, but this speaker I must and have to let people know that this speakers sound is very weak. The bass is weak also. The satellite speaker are weak as well. If you put the speaker and the sub woofer (I don't think it should be call a sub woofer more like a noise maker) at full volume you can barely hear then one room away. I personally was shock that the sound was so weak. Don't be fool by the good reviews given by other people. The only way you will hear them well is if you are right next to them no more the 3 feet away.
The only good thing I can say about this product is that the design is nice and looks good just about anywhere. Other then that please do not buy this speakers you will find yourself trying to return them or give them away to someone who doesn't have a set of speakers at all, and this case this speakers are better then having none at all, and I can hardly say that.
So in conclusion, speaker are very weak not worth your money.

These speakers are great for the price, and have pretty nice quality and volume. When you turn it way up, it starts getting a bit scratchy, but it can go up pretty loud without losing quality. These are perfect for a computer, if you don't want to go spend a bunch of money on more expensive ones. For other purposes, such as a TV or music system, I'd recommend getting bigger speakers. It has a seperate knob for bass and vol, on the back of the subwoofer.

Pros: Good looking design, common-sized input jack
Con: Low quality all around

Bottom line: we're done with Coby products.
This is the second of their products we've owned and the second that's been a disappointment (at least they're consistent).

Purchased these for family member as a gift so they could listen to portable music w/o headphones.

System consists of two wired satellite speakers - that can be plugged either directly to a source such as a laptop - and the larger bass speaker. The latter has a 110v electric plug and power switch (presumably for an internal amp), a socket for the satellite speaker wire, and separate volume controls for treble (satellite)and bass speakers.
Initially, only one satellite speaker would operate. The second satellite would play if we pulled the plug on the back of the sub out just a little, indicating the socket connection is faulty. The so-called bass (laughingly referred to as a "sub") barely makes any sound at full power. The only way we can tell it operates is to feel the speaker cone, which barely vibrates. I suspect the internal amp is faulty as well.
Issues are the same regardless of whether the system is plugged into a laptop, desktop or portable music player.

We've repackaged this one and it's going back.

These don't have low sound - I'm listening to them right now. You have to adjust the volume with the knob on the back of the subwoofer. Not bad for a small set of PC speakers or to plug your ipod into. For sub $25 speakers (that include a small subwoofer) these are pretty good.

A work colleague received a set of these; they sound okay for the price. Yes, the 50 watt rating may be misleading. Even in the '70's, they tried to establish a standard, Peak, RMS and IHF (Institute of High Fidelity) for audio power ratings. If you look on the rear of the subwoofer, you'll see the power draw is only 13 Watts, and a lot of that power is just lost in heat (efficiency), so 50 Watts is just someone's fallacy.

The bass on this 50w system is surprisingly unsatisfactory compared to the altec lansing BX1121 i also use. If you are looking for decent bass, this is not the system for you. otherwise it would work nice for background type situations. There is bass, and in a way it could be considered more rich, maybe accurate is the word i'm looking for, but it isn't pounding that is for sure.

At first I was skeptical b/c I read some disappointing reviews, but I really wanted to get a set for my room because hearing the stock speakers to a laptop gets boring. When they arrived and I plugged them in, skeptically expecting them to not attain my satisfaction, played Kendrick Lamar's "Money Trees", and the bass dropped sending me chills and thrills for these small speakers. Definitely did more than what I expected, wish I got two sets instead of one. Great product for a small space, my room is about 13x15 and with just those speakers I irritate the neighbors (yea I bought a different set of speakers to maker more noise lol). Dont expect them to be extraordinary, especially for the sound to fill a big space, but they do the job!
