We love the booster seat. Eliminates the danger of dog hanging out window and perfect for recent 4 day road trip. She was able to see out window or sleep comfortably. Maishon is 26 lbs and about 19 inches long. We have the jumbo seat and any larger dog would not fit. We just got a second because it's a little bothersome changing from car to car but its worth the money. Regarding the unsafe comment, it's no more unsafe than any other booster seat. Common safety measures should always be used.

I have two Chorkies (Chihuahua/Yorkie mix) that are 9 lbs and 8 lbs. My larger mutt is terrified in the car. He shakes all over, pants and whines a bit. It’s really sad for me as his dog mom because there are times we have to travel and there is nothing that soothes his nerves. I even tried those calming treats that are supposed to help the dog cope with stress and no luck. He would still get really upset in the car.
I had a dog several years ago that was a rescued mixed breed and she didn’t like being in a car either. She was large enough though that I was able to get a soft harness for her and seat belt her in and no more car stress. Well that got me thinking that maybe my little ones needed some security on a car trip as well. Because these dogs are so tiny though, the soft harness and seat belt method wouldn’t work well. That’s when I started to look at these pet booster seats but wasn’t sure if they would be worth the time/effort/money/etc. This Solvit seat caught my eye.
I ordered the extra-large seat as my dogs combined weight is approximately 17-18 lbs and I wanted them to have a little bit of room to lie down if they wanted too. The seat arrived on 3/5 and assembly only took about 10 minutes. The construction is solid and the fabric has a nice look. The cover is also removable for washing and seems pretty sturdy. There are 2 harness clips so if you are like me with 2 small dogs, you can safely harness them both. Installation in the car took only a few minutes too!
I’m happy to report that during our first 2.5 hour car trip on 3/6, my usually terrified dog was so happy and content that he slept most of the way (when he and his sister weren’t looking out the window that is). This was the same situation with our return trip on 3/8.Read more ›

I purchased this seat for Mitzy who is a 12 lb. miniature dachshund. Although I love holding her when I travel, I am always nagged with concerns for her safety as well as ours and this seat seemed like a possible solution.
The product is well made and easy to install and use. Mitzy is well supported in the seat and has adequate room for a blanket and to lie down. There is a strap that goes around the back of the vehicle seat and in my case the strap is able to rest over the arms of the vehicle's captain style seats, which gives the carrier additional support. I would say that the use of a harness (not a collar) is a must if your pet is to be secured with the included tether.
It took one ride for Mitzy to adjust to not being in my lap and now she loves being up where she can see out the windows. As for me, I enjoy opening the vehicle window a bit without the concerns of her falling out. I can even stop for gas without the fear of opening the car door!
I do share the sentiment of other users regarding the chemical odor. I called the manufacturer leaving a message, and impressively my call was returned within an hour. The odor problem is not with the fabric but rather with tubes that are used in the support structure. Although the odor will (and already has) dissipated they offered to replace the set.
This is a great carrier and I will definitely look for other Solvit products when I have pet related needs!
