I first purchased a sample of this product, Thermo-Tec 14600 12" X 12" Heat and Sound Suppressor, 2 Piece and was very pleased from my tests. You can read that review if you want specifics of this product compared to Dynamat and FatMat.
This particular item is a total of 100 square feet, 3 feet by 33.3 feet in roll form. Amazon has since raised the price on this item, at the time I purchased it was a bargain (cheaper than the popular auto racing stores).
I see some folks using this product wrong then leaving negative comments. Let me try to explain that auto sound deadening and insulation is performed with a variety of products and materials, there is no one-product does it all solution. If you research Thermo-Tec's web site, you will find that they sell almost everything for both sound deadening, insulation and sound control, and it's up to you to purchase the right balance of the products for your situation.
First, this is Thermo-tec's sound deadener that is capable of handling high temperatures in-cabin. It's not for engine bay use, and it's primary purpose is not to insulate but to deaden sound. You will see on TV shows and web sites where folks use sound deadener 100% over panels and such, that's not necessary the best approach. The best, cost effective approach is to use sound deadener like this one only on metal panels, specifically in the middle of each panel. If the panel is 1 foot by 2 feet, you can install a square piece of sound deadener that's just over 1/2 a square foot and apply it to the center of that panel.Read more ›
