Product Description

The Red Wing Beckman Chukka 9024 is named after Red Wing Shoe Company founder Charles Beckman. Mr. Beckman operated a shoe store at the corner of Main and Bush streets in Red Wing, and in his advertising and store signage, he promoted himself as: Beckman, The Shoe Man. Naming our finest dress boots after Mr. Beckman seems more than appropriate. This men's chukka combines rugged performance features with smart styling. This Red Wing boot also has a black featherstone leather upper and a Roccia outsole. We're confident The Shoe Man would appreciate the endorsement for the Red Wing Beckman Chukka 9024!

A sleek, handsome, and trendy alternative to the classic oxford, this Chukka-style boot lets your discriminating tastes come through loud and clear. You may find yourself enamored by its full-grain leather upper and smooth, rugged cut--and we wouldn't blame you. But don't overlook its other self-recommending features, including impeccable stitching, wood-look sole with rubber traction patches, and trim, polished lacing.

Purchased the Red Wing Beckman in brown a few weeks ago and the reviewer is 100% correct that they're stiff for a while. I broke mine in by wearing them for short amounts of time the first week and then all day thereafter. While the sticker price is difficult to get past when you see boots of similar styles for 1/3rd the price, once you live with them for a while you'll totally understand what kind of value you are getting for your dollar (or $300 to be exact). I was recently in an "upscale" shoe store with my wife and ventured to the men's section. They had a boot similar is style for half the price but the quality was junk in comparison to the Red Wings. The nice thing about these is they can be resoled. Many less expensive, rubber soled imitations cannot. Finding your size can be tricky with these so I would advise being fitted in a shoe store. I typically wear a size 10 and the 9.5's fit perfectly lengthwise but are just a bit narrow in the toes especially later in the day when your feet tend to swell. I'm wishing I would've gotten the 10's and just wore thicker socks. Apply a bit of mink oil (including the leather part of the sole and stitching) after you first get them and then again every few months and they are pretty much indestructible. Oh and also be prepared for many compliments!

Let's see... I read all of the reviews for this during my search. The one piece of information that would have been helpful for me was the size.
I typically wear an 11.5 in Asics, La Sportiva, Asolo, and Keen and the size 11 fits perfectly with this Chukka.
Great craftsmanship and finish. The boots are well made and will take a while to form to your feet. Be patient and give these shoes short bursts of use in the beginning.
Enjoy a handcrafted boot made in the good old USA.

I had this pair of shoes for 9 months wearing them once a week on average knowing this is a pair of pretty shoes for dressing. I would expect the shoes to actually built to last, but with the glue failing gradually, I start to wonder if Red Wing can pass the 3 year mark in 2016. If I had to spend excessive amount of money to have them resoled by then, this investment would be a real bad one since $100 each year for a pair of mediocre boots is no worse investment than $300 on one pair. Will upload pictures.

Bought these in black and came back for brown, but out of my size...width is true to size...excellent vibram sole...if you want a super cushion shoe look elsewhere...shoe volume is low so if you want some cushion, it better a be thin insert...sharp looking shoe...the ladies will notice...pic doesn't do it justice...real leather and med thick - not the thin plastic feeling leather you see on some AE shoes...says made in the USA on the tongue...

I have worn out two pairs of Timberland chukka boots (review posted) over the last few years, and was looking for a better quality replacement. These shoes fit the bill! I believe they will last years and years. They look great and are very comfortable (after a month of wear). My only negative comment is that due to the stiffness of the soles, driving "touch" is not optimal. Obviously, these are not driving shoes, and I did not expect them to be. I am a Civil Engineer, and need professional looking shoes that hold up to site visits and board meetings. I doubt that better shoes could be found for my requirements.

I will try to remember to post a one-year update on wear and comfort.

I decided to purchase a pair of these because I think they have a great, classic look, I heard RedWing made quality products, and they are made in a way that they can be refurbished down the road (who wants to throw away a pair of shoes when you finally have them broken in).

Overall - they are exactly what I anticipated/ hoped for with two exceptions:

    1) The rubber on both heels is already starting to come unglued after only two weeks - an easy fix, but kinda disappointing from a quality perspective

    2) The last is very narrow around the arch. If you have wide feet, these will either need to be professionally stretched or they may be quite uncomfortable.

NOTE - I just had my first pair of shoes replaced under warranty. The heel has separated in a 2 spots and the turnaround time was incredibly fast from Red Wing.

As stated above the heel separated on these shoes. Looking at other reviews this seems to be an issue. My heel had started to separate from the leather sole and also one heel had separated in the middle as well. My shoes were replaced within a day of receipt and on their way back to me.

This is a very sturdy shoe. I had worn the previous ones maybe a dozen times and had only just started to break them in. I have a "C" width foot so if you're wider than that these may be snug. Understand these are Red Wing shoes and are built to last. The leather, while nice, isn't what you will get with other dressier chukkas. I've noticed slight imperfections but I have no issue with that as these are "boots". The leather seemed to be drying out a bit on the shoes so I need to figure out the best way to care for the uppers. Very sturdy shoe with minimum support but it will form to your foot over time.

I bought these to wear for years and they seem to be built for that. I have a local cobbler that can re-sole and recondition so when the time comes for that years down the road I will submit another review. These shoes are snazzy and go great with jeans or slacks. Other than the heel issue I would purchase these again.
