These nibs do indeed "hold" more ink than your average nib on the street. I can also tell you, that for the price, these nibs perform as well, and if not better, than some of the more expensive nibs I have used over the years. I was digging through my art stuff and found a box containing quite a number of these things I have collected throughout the years and to be quite frank, I had forgotten I had them. Anyway, I had already purchased this new set so out of curiosity I tried quite a number of them, i.e. the old versus the new. These new tips held up quite well in my unofficial and purely nonscientific test.

These nibs fit all my old pen holders but I do have two of the Speedball Sapphire models which are my favorite...one rather new and one rather old.

If these things are not abused and are kept clean as all pen nibs should be kept, there is no reason they will not last for years. The ink delivery is quite smooth and there is no "rough" feel about them.

All in all, I am quite satisfied with this product and am delighted with the price here on Amazon. To be honest, these cost me about four more bucks here at a local art supply house...teach me to do my research!

I bought these because of the glowing reviews I read here. I've been lettering and doing calligraphy for 43 years now and these are the worst nibs I have ever tried to use. They don't hold ink at all, they skip (when they even write), they chew up your paper--you name it, they suck.

The only way to make these work is by using super sturdy paper and a very heavy ink for everything, which more than negates any money you save by favoring these over a better made but undoubtedly pricier set.

I extensively compared them with my own (old) nibs on the same sheets of paper, using the same inks, and I am aghast at how unusably bad these are. With halfway decent nibs you can calligraph and letter virtually any paper with virtually any ink with fine results and save your money for really special projects.

In contrast, the pilot pen I also purchased works really well and is gentle with even recycled paper.

I am sorry to be so harsh on these, but if you want to enjoy your lettering and calligraphy and DON'T want to drop a bundle on paper, ink and repeated efforts, look elsewhere!

I wanted to get into calligraphy so I got this set along with Learn Calligraphy by Margaret Shepherd and some blue Waterman ink. Being a novice, I can't go too in depth, but so far I really like this set. There's a great variety of nibs for different purposes. I found some of the nibs to be, I guess you could call it "scratchy". These would pick up fibers from the paper, making the writing a bit fuzzy as well as the page. Granted this is a two dollar grid notebook I got merely for practice. Nonetheless, these nibs serve their purpose and I'm happy with my purchase. Maybe further down the road I'll invest in some Brause, but for now these are great. I especially like the A5 nib, it's definitely one of the smoothest.

I have recently re-awakened a dormant hobby of drawing and calligraphy, deciding it was time for some new nibs. In the old days, I could walk into an art store and purchase (loose) a handful of nibs in various sizes. Today, I am forced to purchase a package that includes some I really don't want. This assortment gives you a variety of nibs that covers just about everything you want to do in calligraphy and a lot in graphic arts. As with any basic set it covers essentials but not the frills. It can't do everything which is why they make other nibs, of course.
If you need fine lines then get another set. Holders are not included so bring your own or buy a set including one. But this is a great set to cover most of the A, B, C's of calligraphy nibs.
