I purchased an SB-600 (I have a D90) from BestBuy just to get a feel for off camera flash photography. Just so happens that I got a faulty item. Absolutely nothing against Nikon... I just happened to get one that didn't work. But it worked out great for me in the end. That night I researched alternatives and came upon YN's product line. I ordered two YN-460ii's, and two sets of YN RF-602 radio triggers/receivers (it's only $6 less for a receiver alone). The total for the two flashes and the two sets of radio triggers/receivers came to $60 less than what I paid for the single SB-600. Of course there's no CLS capability with the YN's... but I now have radio triggers/receivers taking line of sight out of the equation.

Un-boxed everything thinking there would be at least one faulty item somewhere in the mix, but was relieved to find everything working perfectly. Fired off at least a hundred flashes tonight without any issues. Amazing alternative to the pricier versions out there.

After messing around with off camera, I tried on-camera and it was brilliant. It won't fire unless you're in manual mode on your camera. I usually have it on aperture priority. Makes sense though since your camera won't fire with the correct settings given that the flash has no TTL capabilities. That's one of the upsides to having an SB-XXX, assuming cost is not a factor.

There is no digital display on the back of the YN-460II, and there's only 7 power levels visible on the back of the flash. But you can fine tune each level at 1/7th increments beyond that.

For the price being a fraction of what you'd pay for a Nikon, it's a steal. Brilliant. And if you're worried about the whole "made in china" thing, the Nikons are made in China too.

For a strobit (someone who needs manual off camera flashes) this thing absolutely rocks.

It's like a strobist was actually on the product development team.

Pros:
- Metal shoe, I've busted and replaced many shoes on name brand units, this one is indestructible.
- LONG timeout, self shut off is 30 or 60min depending on mode, my silly sb-28's would go into standby every few min when i changed the batteries
- Dead simple, button controls. The nikons are complicated, the vivitars are not buttons
- Great swivel
- Nice flip down diffuser
- Nice stand with needed threaded hole
- BUILT IN SLAVE! that saves you $10 right there, and it's intelligent to work with iTTL pre-flashes
- Fast recharge, you can hear the very unusual switching charging circuit.
- Entertaining manual when read aloud thanks to automated translation.

Cons
- no shoe lock
- no pc cord socket
- no zoom (but really you don't need it) (Oh they have a higher end model for only $20 more that has zoom)

Really solid product, thank you for making this.

I received my 460II 2 days earlier than the anticipated date, which was pretty cool.

When I took the flash out of the box I noted that there were already a few minor scratches on it, but I found that the flash worked very well for the $44 or so I paid for it at the time so I didn't think it was a big deal. But unfortunately 2 days later it died. All of the lights would come on, but the Pilot button would remain red, and never turn green, so I couldn't actually fire the flash. I did some brief reading online which indicated that it was likely a faulty flux capacitor that was the problem and could be easily fixed.

I understand this section is for reviewing the product itself and not the vendor, but since this particular product page appears to be directly related to BestDealsUSA distribution of the item I'm going to add it here.

Being that I'd just purchased the device and it would still be under warranty I contacted the seller, in this case BestDealUSA. They gave me the option of receiving a refund, or getting it replaced. I opted to get it replaced since I was happy with it while it was working, and they covered my costs to ship it back to them (for reference it was $4.80 via USPS with Shipment Confirmation). I shipped it back and was credited the $4.80 shortly thereafter.

Fast forward to when I received my replacement device. Upon removing it from the box I could tell that this was most certainly not a brand new unit. Nevertheless I put in my batteries and did some initial test shots which worked just fine. After that I reached out to BestDealUSA and asked why I was getting a device that was obviously not brand new, which is what I originally paid for. I then received a response from BestDealUSA customer support saying "We're sorry for the inconvenience.

I picked up one of these because I needed a bit more light for a specific shoot and I wasn't going to pay for another Speedlite. These work just fine for extra strobes. If you don't have a decent strobe I would look at one of the Yongnuos that have a bit more functionality, but for a third or fourth strobe this fits the bill. It depends on what you're looking for. I mostly shoot off-camera flash in full manual. This works fine for that though I wish it had zoom and there are times that smaller power increments are needed, but there are workarounds. It also helps to have a few decent strobes, so if I need a zoom or fine-tune some power I grab my 580ex. If I just need some extra light I can grab my Yn-460ii. Honestly, if I'm just shooting light into an umbrella I'll grab this before my 430exII because I hate the buttons on that one.

Yup, it's louder than the namebrand flashes. It doesn't recycle as fast. It's not quite as durable. But it costs a tenths as much. And if I need to put a strobe up in a tree or over water or something, it's going to be my Yongnuo.
