Simple in design but made sturdy enough that it should last awhile. Drag it along to pick up what you want, then pull the handle to release.

If you put a sandwich bag (inside out) over the end when you're done just pull the baggy back the other way and pull handle to release. I do this with metal shaving's so there easier to contain

Burned pallets for a bonfire in my lawn and figured this magnet w/release would be good enough. I have used a $40 sweep w/release that my father had from Northern Tool and thought this would be an alright substitute for my minor needs....nope. Picks up 1-3 nails per sweep only if you are like RIGHT over them, and about 10 nails if you link them like a barrel of monkeys, seriously. I am sorry to disappoint but I am giving this an honest review.

I had to go over the burning pit dozens of times, each time raking the nails to the very top surface to pick them up. When I finished I was weary of the job this magnet did so I grabbed my $10 bargain store (Harbor Freight) rolling magnetic sweep and did a pass over the pit and then the 10 ft distance I was transporting the used nails to. I ended up picking up about 5 MORE pounds (yes pounds) of nails during that 'final check'.

Overall I would buy a higher quality magnet.

Bought and used this for a roof tear-off.

I did an ultra controlled tear-off to limit the amount of shingles, nails, staples, etc. that might fall off due to having flowerbeds surrounding the entire house. All though I was able to control the debris extremely well, there were still nails that found their way into the flowerbeds.

Not being able to fit a full mag sweeper in the beds (without crushing all the plants of course), this was the perfect option. After a few sweeps back and forth, we found all the nails and a few other metal objects with ease.

This isn't all that great (it picks up MAYBE 10 pounds, not 25), but it worked well enough to get in between all the plants without destroying them.

So overall it worked well.

We had the house re-roofed by a local crew (GAF Gold certified dealer) that did a great job- but it is impossible to control where all the removed nails go so I knew we'd be finding them for a while despite the roofing crews efforts. They swept and used heavy bar magnets around the house every few hours and got most, but nothing will get them all immediately. And I didn't want to be fixing flats on our motorcycles, cars. lawn tractor, etc

This tool fits in between tight plants in the flower beds and along small cracks and obstacles around the driveways better than a big magnet. I've removed about 2 lbs of nails from our beds and nearby areas and we've gotten no flats.

Recently I built a chicken coop and run for backyard birds and had to cut and trim a lot of hardware cloth. This tool came in very handy for finding remnant bits left after sweeping the garage that would otherwise have been picked up by tires.

Its not perfect. Needs a stronger magnet to lift more bits or heavier weight (there are many available but they cost more than what is used in this tool) and, IMO, a handle 6" longer (I'm 6 ft with 35 inch sleeves and this thing is too short). The magnet used will not pull bits from heavy grass or deep ashes so don't buy it for those uses.

Pretty cheaply made. I was pretty disappointed when it came because I bought it as a gift for my husband. It picks up like 3 lbs and that is about it, which is fine. The handle and such is just cheap feeling. Not something I would really recommend.

works perfectly but now I do wish I would have purchased the one with the wider base. The good thing is that as soon as you pick up a nail it makes a loud clunk sound letting you know. Pull the small inner handle up and all the nails release off. I really needed this in my yard when I am working out there. Came in very handy. and the good part of it being low profile is that I can hang it on my basement door and forget its there. The handle hangs on a door knob perfectly.
