The high end of the Cap brand

This is a gym quality rubber coated hex dumbbell. It fits well with my weight set in my health club with other hex dumbbells. The handle is "ergo" but is thick at 35mm. There are some brands out there with graded handle sizes based on how heavy it is but this is the same size throughout. People with smaller hands will find this to be a large size. The smell is that of a new tire and is not overpowering in my rubber floored room.

Cap is a brand that also makes home weight sets and this is truly the high end of the set. It is comparable with most lower end rubber hex dumbbells but does not have the features of higher end dumbbells from York and Hampton that have either a graded handle or higher quality urethane coating. For the price this is a good dumbbell although not better than Body Solid SDRS550 5-50-Pound Rubber Hex Dumbbell Set which can be found at a cheaper price in many instances.

THESE DUMBBELLS ARE SOLD INDIVIDUALLY. Do not expect to get a pair.

Functional but not rust-proof

The weights are as advertised. They have good gripping surfaces. The rubber coating keeps them from scratching up each other or the shelving or the floors.

The only issue I've noticed is that they've started to rust. After about 20 uses over 2 months, I noticed discoloration of the gripping area. (It's as if they are coated with something rust-proof but the gripping texture cuts through it.)

Functional but very smelly

This is a well constructed product and worth the price... if you keep it outdoors.
Reason being is that the rubber coating emits an extremely strong industrial rubber odor. I really wanted to like this dumbbell. Took it out of the flimsy cardboard box that it barely arrived in and promptly banged-out a some curls, both arms then set them down in my den, the door was left open. Walked into the kitchen to get a glass of water when a family member asked- "what's that weird smell?" And that's when it hit me- BAM!
I was aware of an odor of car-tires but hadn't make the connection because all my other weights are iron. Unfortunately the decision had to be made to quickly wrap it up and repack it, got on-line and set-up the return which amazon simplified as so was quick and easy. Due to the fact that the rubber is off-gassing who knows what kind of fumes into my home, the item must be deemed defective because working out with this thing is detrimental to one's health which would defeat the purpose of exercising.

FYI just one single dumbell not two

As you probably know CAP is a GREAT brand so the product has no problem. Comfortable for both my small hands and my husband large hands. Easy to handle even if moving his heavier sizes. The rubber never has left any streaks on my hardwood floors and they stack and stay wonderfully.
My review is to clearly state there is only ONE bumbell and not a set due to the fact they ignored this fital piece of information. Not uncommen in the least that is in one. Just would be nice to know 100% what you are ordering.

Very nice

I used these weights at the gym everytime I go and I love them. They are a little pricey but I think they are worth it.

PROS:
- Well made
- Grip is perfect

CONS:
- This is a little weird but they smell like firewood....really bad. It did not hinder any workouts and the smell lost its strength over time but it is still there.

Harsh rubber smell is not going away

I've wait some time before posting a review on this product hoping the rubber chemical smell would eventually go away. I've washed the Dumbbells with soap and water. Left them outside for the first few months because I couldn't stand the smell in the fitness area and after several month's they still give off a toxic odor. I've resorted to coating the dumbbells with the Plastic Dip product which appears to have reduced the smell. DON'T BUY this product because this is not the same quality of product that CAP used to provide. I own 6 other pairs of CAP dumbbells from several years back and they didn't have the same odor issue. No longer a promoter of the CAP product as its quality has declined.

Great

My gym has the same weights raging from 10 pounds to 40 pounds. Between these and Iron Grip dumbbells that my gym has, my wife found these to be her favorite.

After my wife gave birth it became hard for her to go to the gym so I build one in the house for her. I ordered few sets of these from a wholesale supplier and its been 6 months and they show very little tear even with daily use. The rubber on them is really a good idea to protect the weights as well as the floor in case of a drop. She likes the way the handle is shaped, I personally am not a fan but it does not bother me.

The only problem I have with the handle is that when you use the 45+ pound sets it becomes a little uncomfortable to hold it.

Great product, durable

This is a good dumb bell for a great price. The rubber weight is very durable and can take a beating without showing marks. Yes they will smell because THEY ARE RUBBER, and yes rubber when brand new has a distinct smell to it. To me that's a relief because then you know its actually better material and not fake cheap stuff (the weighted ends) so yeah they will have a little bit of an smell but not for long. Thats just part of it. But they are perfect for any home use.
