I have to say, contrary to one review, that it is small for some adults.

My son is 8 and it fits perfectly.

It seems really well made, with very stiff material. The gold decoration is a bit on the cheap side in that it falls off, but can be easily glued back on. The sides snap to give it great shape.

For the money - great for a costume.

Great $5 hat with free ship - you cannot beat this. We tied black tulle around the crown making a big bow in the back with tulle tails hanging down. We added red ribbons to hang also and a red peacock with a large feather tail. On the front we glued a red feather puff and this pirate hat is stunning!

It fits me, my sister, mother and niece and we all love it! Very eye catching when decorated with some odds and ends.

In fact I bought two. On the second one we simply clipped on a feather fascinator made of tall burgundy and black feathers, with a crystal center, and have a very elegant pirate hat perfect for my mother.

Two different looks, two stunning looks from a $5 add on item with free ship!

This "one size" hat is too big even for me, not to mention my 10-year old son, and his head is not some atypical size for his age. The hat is made of some pretty hard material, so even if your head is a "proper" size, the hat may still feel uncomfortable if its shape is not right for you. I expected it to be softer and smaller. It was intended for my son's Walk the Revolution event, but will go to the closet instead.

Sturdy and as described. My son plays with this all the time and it's not destroyed yet. He runs across the yard yelling, "The red coats are coming". He's the most early American history obsessed 6 year old I've ever known. Fun fact: Sybil Ludington was 16 and she rode twice as far as Paul Revere to gather her fathers troops because the red coats were burning down the town of Danburry. She rode her horse Star from farm house to farm house in the rain, sneaking past bandits. It was a 40 mile trip, and she was able to gather 400 men from her fathers militia.

Hat looks nice, smooth velvet, nice colors. Tri corners aren't sewed on, instead they attach with a Velcro. Not sure why, since the bend of the hat makes the corners fall down and unattach from the low-strength Velcro. I need it for a costume so I don't want to bother with returns, but I'll probably have to sew a few small stitches to keep the hat looking the way it's supposed to. A shame, instead of stitching Velcro pieces on, they should have just stitched the corners on.

Reasonable for the price. Our office wore these on a staff ride to a Revolutionary War battlefield. They were fun. Only two big issues: 1) The SIZE - these are VERY small for an adult's head. Most of the men couldn't wear them comfortably. 2) The velcro tabs (one on each tricornes to hold the sides) are a bit weak, so some of the hats looked more like pirate hats, because the side wouldn't stay up.

Alarmingly, this hat is not a tricorn when it arrives, and there are no instructions for making it into one. Careful inspection and another look at the amazon photo reveals 3 prong fasteners at the edge of the brim which can put into pre-made holes in the crown to turn it into a tricorn. For everyone to have a different opinion as to the size, the manufacturer must be sending out different sizes. Mine is about 24 inches, too big even for me. The label clearly states "Ages 14+." The gold trim is very well attached. My main complaint about this hat is that whatever it's made of (paper?) does not curl easily, so that when you turn the edges up, you do not have a smooth rounded surface. However, if it's the right size, it's certainly a good price to complete a costume.
